Dear Winter - Please ignore bad Kittie and don't arrive until MY STOVE GETS FIXED!

Was it in the fridge? Did it smell off?

Remember most beef is hung for weeks, and gets more expensive the longer it is hung.

Yes in the fridge and I'm not sure how off beef smells like (I really don't like it myself and it always smells horrible to me). However, it didn't smell rancid.

  • Customer service: Our TV remote died, still under warranty and TV was bought from the Sony shop. Manager couldn't have been more offhand and I had to yell "Don't you shrug at me!" (when I asked him when a replacement will be through). He took all details of warranty, he said, and ordered it. Spares department rang three times with various questions because shop HADN'T given them details. Remote took three weeks to arrive! If not under warranty it would have cost us £25 because they're (apparently) configured to the specific make of TV. Bought top of the range TV, best make (we thought) and remote dies in under three years!
Never again will I buy a Sony TV, customer service dreadful. They're only interested in selling a new TV.
Sorry, rant over and feeling better already.
    Normal people worry me.

I am wondering if the seal has gone on "Steve" (so called because he, also, is a Beko  - yes we name the freezer, doesn't everyone? We also have a bookcase called Julian), because even we aren't normally so careless. I think i am going to run the freezers down and maybe get him replaced, it'll be cheaper in the long run.

Maybe you could delay the purchase of a new freezer for a bit by putting something heavy (but not bulky enough to get too much in the way) up against the front of the door to keep it shut. And then change Steve's name to Basil because he's 'Fawlty' :)

Jedi I would cook the beef long and slow.(I usually add water to it) As long as it has a fresh smell I would've thought it was OK. Dont go down the envy root it can be quite self distructive. The other people will have lots of their own problems, including how to keep up with the person who has 7 beds and how to stay young and beautiful. You have a hubby and daughter that love you and that is so much more important than any material thing.
I caught an episode of Real Housewives....what a joke their priorities are so sad and superficial (well to me anyway) Had to turn it off they did my head in!!!

Before you go ahead and replace Steve, perhaps try a cheapie stick on child lock on the freezer door. Should be able to get one for a couple of pounds so you wouldn't lose much to try it........

The stuff I am hearing about europe is also scaring me GQ, I am trying not to listen but can`t help it as I am always hoping for good news about something or other

Yep...it IS scarey to read what is happening re Europe. My estimate personally is that they cant "glue Humpty Dumpty together again" much longer at all and should stop trying (ie "throwing good money after bad").

The plus side, as I see it, to this is that hopefully (cross fingers, click heels together, Follow the Yellow Brick Road) is that Britain severs all ties with Europe and stops getting used as such a "fall guy" in some respects. I think we have even bleaker times ahead before we get to the end of that particular road - but my feeling personally is that staying connected to Europe would lead to a LOT bleaker destination "at the end of the road".

My feeling is that we DARE NOT stay connected to Europe - its costing us way way too heavily - financially and otherwise.

Herewith witness the conversion of a former pro-European - but I think the E.U. is "serving us ill" (very ill) as a country and will "serve us a heck of a sight worse" if we stay connected.

The one thing worse than making a mistake is not acknowledging said mistake has been made/learning the lessons and changing course - and I think thats what we need to do as a country VERY urgently.

Seatbelts on folks - it aint gonna be pretty and it will be a long dark passage before we come out again into the sunlight.

Thanks pennib I know you're right but it is hard when they all have these lovely homes that they invite each other's children to and my little girl doesn't get invited as we just cannot extend the offer back here. It's the price we have to pay for sending her to the school where I teach which is a very affluent area but the school is excellent (I don't just say that cause I work there!). The guilt us mums feel over everything is ridiculous and never ending.

anyways - back on topic as we are always being told.

jedi - you are right - envy gets you nowhere - focus on what you do have - a healthy family and a home full of love. I'm sure the children won't even notice - I certainly don't remember at that age what my friends houses were like so please don't let it put you off inviting her friends over. How is your little lad doing now - no lasting ill effects from the meningitis? Beef will be fine I am certain.

Mardatha - I'm with you - can we delay winter til hubby gets round to chainsawing the ex cherry tree in logs - I'd do it myself but I have an almost irresistable urge to grab the chain!!!! I'll swing the axe for splitting them though!

Cat - great idea about the fridge lock.

Minx was fine at school after a quick cuddle from the teacher and requested a 'first day at school party tea' - which after investigation turns out to be what we were having for tea with crisps and party rings in bowls alongside! If I'd have known a party was required I'd have baked a cake!

Hubby out tonight, dd off to early bed and ds helping at school open evening so I shall light the fire and do some cross stitch - feel I should be making something useful but something beautiful and cheering will have to do instead
