Mrs VP - what a fright you must have had when you got that news - thank goodness they were ok!
I'm so glad the other doc paid proper attention to you ... as it should be but doesn't always happen! Hope your daughter's shoulder will be ok and that she's willing to have the daily therapy.
I was given a huge bag of cooking apples a few weeks ago - they sat there for a while and then I made 2 huge crumbles. And ate them with only a very little help! I did freeze a little unsweetened stewed apple but didn't have much room in my freezer to put much in. I kept some in the fridge in tupperware and it seemed fine - got used within a week. The crumbles kept in the fridge for about a week too and I just reheated a bit as and when I fancied it.

thegoodolddays - welcome! It's a lovely board and this is one of the nicest threads.

Hope everyone is ok and not blown away! It's windy and rainy here but I think we're going to escape the worst of the weather. I'm wondering if I should move the garden bench into the garage - it's pretty sturdy and hasn't budged so far but "better safe than sorry" keeps ringing in my ears.

I've really enjoyed reading all about your decorating and colour schemes. My bedroom is whitey/cream. More white than cream really. I have a white painted metal bed frame and bare pine wardrobe, locker and chest of drawers, Birch effect floor with a couple of small woven rugs. It's quite minimalist but feels very soothing and calm to me and the bedroom is the only room in the house that isn't cluttered! This will probably sound funny but one of my favourite things is that the space under the bed frame is empty (except for [STRIKE]occasional[/STRIKE] dust bunnies!) - it makes me really happy to see that empty space when I walk into the room! Quite a contrast to when I was a teenager and all the mess got shoved under the bed! :D I find it so easy to switch off and conk out there, especially since I got rid of the TV. I haven't decorated it really (no pictures or curtains, just blinds) because I won't be staying in the house but I like how it is anyway.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

Thank you to everyone who is posting on this thread. Yesterday this thread literally saved my day. Feeling a bit low at the moment since my contract is ending at the end of this month and every spare moment is spent filling in application forms or preparing for interviews. Yesterday I spent a few hours sitting in front of the computer and then lost my motivation. Thinking of this thread I decided to go out in our garden and spent half hour or so cutting lavender to hang and dry in our utility room, I have thought about that for weeks but have had no inspiration to do so. Afterwards I felt so much better and more motivated and the utility room now smells really lovely.

Like so many of you we are also facing a tough winter this year and every pence that we can save will make a difference to us. This is the first winter that we are having a wood burner. We have bought 60 straw logs for £49.99 to keep us warm this winter together with our paper logs and other free wood, I am hoping that will last us a few months. I will put the date in our diary when we start using it so that we can see how long it will last.

Have a nice weekend and keep those posts coming in since I enjoy reading them.
(((((Becky))))) Glad the thread made you feel better. Job hunting is so hard and demoralising. I really hope a job that suits and pays well - best of luck with it! I love what you did with the lavender - amazing how these things can make us feel better, I've certainly had that happen before. The wood burner sounds great, so cosy and you will be so glad of it in a few months when the cold kicks in. Have you seen the Preparing for Winter thread - the folks there have loads of great advice.

    Morning all :)

Our bedroom is in the loft. Threee walls are cream (calico, I think) and the gable end wall is a deep plum/ purple/ aubergine colour. We have real wood furniture and the woodwork is waxed oak coloured (as are the doors) The carpet is a neutral mid brown/ beige and the bedding ranges from cream with a pink/ purpl/ plum ribbon stripe to deep aubergine. We currently have striped bedding on - deep berry pink sheets and the duvet cover and pillow cases are in 3 panels - plum/ lilac and dusky pink. We have very few ornaments (3 candles on teh chest of drawers and my jewellery case, a bedside lamp each and a large wooden figure on the floor) and a deep plum canvas on one wall with a dark pink gerbera flower painted on

I have runner beans coming out of my ears - I think I'm going to have to amke chutney with them this week, because I have lots already in the freezer (as does my mum) The guinea pigs are eating some overly large ones, too (and all the trimmings) I have another 4-5 courgettes to pick in a couple of days and will strip the tomatoes the end of this week and make red and green sweet chilli chutney with them. I've stripped the apple tree and have only left about 10 pears on the pear tree (can't reach them) - but have no room for anything!! Argh!

I know someone mentioned making apple butter/ apple jelly??? just with apple peelings and cores.... I need to find that post so I can do the same! :)

Smileyt - great news re your dog - always a worry... x

  • Becky, so glad you've cheered up, the smell of lavender can be very therapeutic. Bedroom: (all emulsioned) mint green wall at back of headboard, rest in off white. Furniture (mis-matched) painted white with mint green detail, lamps from charity shop.Bed linen white/green/pink. On the wall opposite the bed I have a large framed collage of family photos, mostly black and white...great grandfathers etc. I change the photos occasionally and it's better than wallpaper.
    Normal people worry me.

Thanks all of you in letting us into your bedrooms......quite interesting , I do believe that cream/magnolia never goes out of fashion, something about cream that to me its a calm ,relaxling, clean feel to any room, also calico etc is a cream colour too.......

Ginny nice to hear that you also like the shabby chic style, before it actually came into fashion, ive been a collector of cornishware for yrs I absolutely love the stuff, blue and white every where in the kitchen, I got so I collected so much that we had to start using it daily, instead of just being on shelves,if I accidently drop a piece I dont worry too much cos ive got loads to carry on using........ ive even got blue /white frilled gingham curtains and tablecloth to match, also ovengloves...... it goes nice with cream walls too............im not normally an ornament person in my other rooms, but I do have cornishware displayed in the kitchen/diner .....some of the cornishware now is making big bucks,.......I use to remember it was every where in the 50 s and 60 s, I think every home had some.........what ornaments/china/anything do you all collect.? ........:D
