  • Your bedrooms sound lovely! I've moved into the biggest room, which my boys shared a few years ago - it is deep blue with divers and mermaids, shipwrecks and sharks all over it - needs a make-over but since I stripped the wallpaper from the kitchen and painted it my arthritis has been really sore, so not really feeling up to tackling it. I've recently lost my craftroom too, so it's full of all my crafty stuff and yarn - rather a lot!
  • :) Thanks for all of the concern about mum and my niece. Have just got back from work and called them both. Mum went bck to hospital at 1.30 am as she was in so much pain. Is now taking regular painkillers (I did tell her to do this yesterday), very bruised and has damaged a nerve in her leg. Niece seems to be suffering with whiplash and is still a bit shaken up.

Becky2 lavender has very calming and soothing properties. I love the smell of it in the house. You had inspired me to go and cut my lavender to bring in and dry in the kitchen. Thankyou.

Off to sort out the vast amount of pears and apples in the kitchen now. Also need to blanch and freeze the runner beans I picked yesterday and freeze the woopsie chestnut mushrooms that are in the fridge.

Delias HM mincemeat here I come :).

By the way my bedroom is a rich cream on three walls and a terracotta on the headboard wall. Carpet is a sandy colour, Curtains are treacotta with script on them. Bed linen is either the same as the curtains or a cream set with contrasting circle designs down one side. There is a beautiful watercolour of a scene fron the lakes on the wall above the bed. Furniture is beech apart from the bookcases which are MDF and we were supposed to paint them but have never got around to it yet (in 6 years:o)
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

Well the rain is holding off here but still very blustery. Just been for a walk round the graveyard at the back of my house as DGs always falls asleep if we walk there. Me and Dd have been walking him round there since he was born and he seems to find it soothing. Ate a couple of blackberries off the bush round the corner, there are not many left but are nice and sweet.

Only spent £2 today on milk for DGS and fabric conditioner which I rarely use but my new skirt is full of static and the underskirt is riding up! As its a ful length gothy thing it is very uncomfortable and a tad see through when the underskirt is round my ample waist:rotfl:

Am dreading the weather and have a feeling in me water its going to be as bad as they reckon especially as I have a dull headache. Hope everyone is tucked in and you have all tied your mini greenhouses down - mine has a paving stone on the bottom shelf too in hopes of anchoring it.

Becky so glad you enjoy the thread, theres always something to yack about on here, and everyone is friendly....:D glad we saved your day too.:eek:yea what a lovely smell lavender is, so old fashioned smell that will never go out of fashion.....:DBe interesting to see how long 60 straw logs will last, sounds expensive dont it? but I suppose they burn very slow, ive never burnt them to it will be interesting to find out how you get along...keep us posted...........:)

    Shegar,

According to the instructions the straw log will burn up to 3 hours. My OH is planning to lit the fire, then add one straw log and one paper log then let that burn down and then add one hard wood log and once that is finished repeat straw and paper log etc. I have never used straw logs before so I shall let you know how we get on.

Thanks to all of you for your kind comments, this is such a friendly thread. Feeling a lot better today, planning to do more job hunting tomorrow after work.

Mrs VegPlot, did you manage to cut some lavenders to dry in your kithcen?

It's very windy over here today. I hope you all will be safe tomorrow when the storm hits the UK.

I know someone mentioned making apple butter/ apple jelly??? just with apple peelings and cores.... I need to find that post so I can do the same! :)

Dunno about apple butter/jelly with the scraps from apples - but I copied out a recipe for making cider vinegar from apple scraps and its on the to-do list:

Looks like a RATHER nice site to me - and have already copied out a recipe to try with my sesame seeds - of making my own halva.:) Worth a lookaround for anyone into healthy eating:)

So - has anyone ever made their own cider vinegar?

Hope you're all having a good day, and welcome Becky and thegoodolddays.

I'm full of admiration of you all with your produce and preserving. When I got up yesterday I noticed the birds on the Elder tree and that spurred me on to go and collect some berries and have a go at making a juice out of them. The jury is still out at to whether I 'really' like them but the internet is full of praise for their soothing qualities for colds and as I've just had some virus or other I thought I'd give it a try.

While out in the drizzle I took down the fruit cage netting and stored it away for the winter. The apples are so high that I've only managed to pick a few but as long as I keep checking, I should get the fallings cooked and frozen before they go off or the wildlife get them. When I went indoors a Sparrow Hawk landed on the fruit cage frame and sat glaring around the garden before flying off. Amazing bird but glad the little birds kept away.

I decorated our bedroom last year and really love it. The ceiling is creamy (daffodil white), the walls a warm lemon and the paintwork including picture rail are white. The carpet is brown and the furniture is all pine except the bed which is a huge antique oak effect kingsize with high head and tail boards (nothing under the bed either). The curtains are green and I have various sets of bedding, lemon and blue, lemon and green and the winter set is yellow and red. The dogs beds are brown and red with various alternating blankets (yes they sleep in our room). I have 5 pictures of wolves on the walls which came from a calendar one year and there is a dragon above the bed saying 'never wake a sleeping dragon'. I love our room and DH is happy to put up with my taste, though to be honest we are very similar in our likes, either that or he's just humouring me, bless him.

The forecast sounds as if tomorrow is going to be the worst day so fingers crossed we all come out the other end unscathed. Take care folks.

  • Hi again :) I too went out to the garden this morning and cut lots of lavender and have tied it in bunches to dry indoors. Thank you to the person who gave that tip.:) Very very windy here in N/Ireland today since early morning. Wanted to do a few washes but too risky to hang it outside so will leave it and hang it on the clothes horse(minky brand) and very sturdy. Take care everyone and a warm welcome to the new people too:)
Do a little kindness every day.;)
