When my son next come I will get him to do that for me, he is good with puters thanks for that......:T0 -
I bought a fireguard (like the ones for the kids) to keep FK off mine but luckily she seems to get it that its a bit warm to sit on. That said my eco fan is going like the clappers so she would be shredded if she could be bothered to get up there.0

Hi Redlady
We are currently hopping between London and Wales - as we have things to do in both places. Not the best solution from a OS perspective as the diesel costs a fortune, but I can't think of a way around it. We have to clear the house in London but the house in Wales is smaller, so can't shoe-horn everything in so have to made some decisions about selling some stuff that I would prefer to keep (also still have a loft full of stuff from when we moved into this house from our flat!).
TBH, every time I think of it I get the collywobbles, as I am having trouble getting the logistics sorted in my head, but I am sure it will all sort itself out in the end!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Someone asked for an apple core/peeling recipe (I think it was greent) - hope this one is of some use
.
Apple Core & Peeling Jelly
40 min - 10 min prep
I haven't tried this, but love the idea of using that, which would normally be tossed to make something delightful. Cook time is approximate and does not include water bath time.
Peelings and cores from 15-20 apples
6 cups water (for cooking cores and peels)
1¾ ounce dry pectin
9 cups sugar
1-2 drop red food colouring (or 1 drop each of yellow and blue food colouring) (optional)
Cook peelings and cores in 6 cups water for 20-30 minutes.
Strain through prepared cheesecloth or jelly bag.
Add water as needed, to strained juice, to obtain 7 cups liquid.
Add pectin (whisk works well) and bring to a rapid boil.
Add sugar, boil hard for 2 minutes.
Note: If desired, food colouring can be added to juice for colour.
Pour into sterile jars, leaving 1/8" headspace; wipe jar rims, adjust lids and rings; water bath 5 minutes."Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718

If you have a garage where you are going, put everything in there first and then make the decisions once you are living there. Having downsized myself I can confirm that everything you think you will need you wont, and everything you think you wont need, you will!
You wont miss the "things" until you actually think of them (I did this with some jewellery) but just remember why you are doing this and you will be fine. If you weren't nervous then you wouldnt be normal!
Good luck x
Shegar, I would love to make one but it would need cutting down for where I need it to go and I honestly dont get the time to spend a day doing it with the two jobs and studying (which has started now again) but that is certainly something worth knowing for the future. Thanks x0 -
Thanks for that recipe Frugalista. :A:beer::T
I made apple crumble tonight to have the peelings from 6 apples. Am now off to boil them and ignore the looks I will get from OH.0 -
Redlady - my log store is two pieces of trellis, a couple of split rails and a piece of roofing felt. Once pieces of trellis on the bottom (raised off the ground by half a dozen old bricks) and the other piece cut in half diagonally. Half bits of trellis at either end of the base, short end at the back. Rails cut to same length as base and secured to the trellis back and front at the top. Roofing felt nailed to the back rail, and overhanging at the front (you can lift it up, but it adds protection). We used corrugated roofing felt as it is heavier. The store is against the shed, so it is secured (for when it is empty) by vine-eyes and wire to the shed wall. It took no time to make and was very cheap.0

No garage in either place, and really the main issue is just clearing the carp in London, and shifting the things to keep to Wales. But how two people could have accumulated so much stuff I really do not know :rotfl:. We need to do a serious down-shift. Lots of clothes and books have gone to the charity shop, but there is so much left and I hate throwing away anything that has life left in it. In Wales there is a very healthy charity donation scheme, but in London it seems the shops are very picky and wont take a lot of good stuff. One thing that will be going is the bed - sooo comfortable, if we had to leave everything else behind we would move heaven and earth to relocate it!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0

I've picked up quite a few interesting tips on here today, including foil round a cucumber and apple core/peel jelly. The latter will be particularly useful as my tree is groaning with fruit this year. I picked up a few of those dimpled trays that apples are displayed in at Mr M today and will be attempting some cold storage of apples this year. Oh, speaking of Mr M, for anyone wanting to make the diluted cleaning spray their version of Milton is much cheaper than the original.
As shegar and Tgod have mentioned it has been sunny and warm today again here (Suffolk), although a bit breezy. The new greenhouse is fine so far and I am my cat's best friend - she is spending all day in it and is very disgruntled when I turf her out in the evening when I close it up.
Won't mention my bedroom colour scheme as it is not v nice and in need of decorating - a winter job that. Someone mentioned cornishware and Hornsea Cirrus. I collect Hornsea Heirloom for display and for daily use - it's 60s/70s retro. Whenever I get some more, some non-Hornsea stuff gets recycled to the charity shop. It looks good on my dresser with 2 harvest baskets under the shelves - one filled with home grown stuff and one with seasonal non-edible stuff, currently conkers and pinecones.
Mrs Chip - it might be worth getting in touch with your nearest women's refuge re stuff that charity shops in London won't touch. A few years ago I had a big declutter and put some things on Freegle - a volunteer at a women's refuge asked for some of the stuff and explained that some women leave home with just a few clothes for themselves and their children, so when they get alternative accommodation they need everything. I passed on loads of stuff after contacting the refuge directly to confirm this was the case.
Good luck to all in the north/west - Mardatha the invite still stands, 21C today again.:rotfl:"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0
