Hello everyone,
Gosh, you can tell it was my first wek back at work - I haven't had a chance to post all week.
It's blustery and rainy here, so I've had to resort to the tumble-drier to get OH's shirts dry for work. I've tried to secure as much stuff as possible in the garden for the next couple of days, but I suspect our poor runner beans (which are only just beginning to be big eough to eat) will take a battering.
On the OS front I made 8 jars of plum jam yesterday. It was a big improvement from the blackcurrant jam I made early in the year as I managed not to over-boil it, so it is definitely jam rather than toffee! I also made a batch of hummous using Weezld's recipe. I added two cloves of garlic and OH said it was the best hummous he'd had - far better than the shop bought stuff:D
The other big OS news is that, inspired by Kittie, I have started my first ever starter for some sourdough bread. I started it yesterday and today it had started to ferment slowly so I gave it its first feed. I'm following the instructions/recipe in the River Cottage Bread Book (Christmas pressie from OH last year) and it is all very exciting.
Our bedroom has mainly yellow walls, with a couple of white sloping walls, the furniture is pine and in a few weeks' time we will have lovely white curtains complete with fleecy interlining. I ordered them yesterday, they cost a fortune:eek:, but I figured that as the old ones were at least 25 years old (apparently - before my time!) and getting threadbare in places it was time for a replacement and I might as well get as good ones as we could afford as we don't change stuff very often.
Welcome to the new folk, it's very friendly round here:) and hugs to everyone who needs them.
Hope everyone gets through the next couple of days without too much damage.0 -
OH managed to forage a carrier bag full of lovely, fat rosehips, so I'm going to make rosehip syrup tomorrow.:)
Getting loads of apples from MIL to make apple sauce. Also managed to pick a tray full of blackberries, which DH eats with his cereal.
On the subject of bedroom decor, our bedding is cream and gold, our floor length curtains are a light gold colour, I have a shabby chic, cream coloured dressing table and stool and cream floor to ceiling wardrobes. The fitted carpet is a deep burgundy colour with cream rugs on either side of the bed.
I have a French style clock and wall mirror and some cream and burgundy wooden roses in a gold vase. Stuffed heart shaped hanging decorations on the cupboard door knobs.
Gold and cream wallpaper on all the walls. The room is very restful.
Hope those in the west and north of the country, stay safe in the bad weather to come. :wave:Felines are my favourite

These are my favourites: not necessarily directly money saving, but more frugal life-style type books:
Downshifting (now out of print)
NOT buying it (entertaining read - but not many MS hints)
Extreme simplicity (a bit american, but interesting)
Living Lightly (I love this book, some of the case studies are sooo appealing)
I've recently read the Tightwad Gazette. It was quite interesting, but not inspiring - and I must admit some of the "1001 ways to reuse a laddered stocking" sections were a bit beyond me!0 -
Good evening young Sages...I am after a log store. As you know everything on here I thought I would ask you lot first. Yes, I know I could make it but unfortunately there are not enough hours in a day.
Steve has been lit and now Fat Knacker is sprawled out in front of him. I am about to go and make some onion marmalade after actually doing chuff all today for a change.
I had a blokey round last week to quote for a landing and stairs carpet. The walls are lime and the wood is a white and I am after a navy runner but all I kept getting from him was "oh it will be expensive". I was very tempted to say "yeah, thanks for that but let me decide whether I can afford it or not please!" I dont think he wants to do it as I believe it is pretty fiddly.0 -

Thats a hard question.......I suppose I dont really read books but I do read monthly mags.......and always read all the peoples homes and how they done their house on a budget so that I get ideas that way.......hard one to answer, I will give it more thought:D0 -
Redlady I have never seen a log store that looked reasonably priced.
Can you just find a sheltered spot up against a wall and cover it with a tarpaulin for now? This one looks ok though.
Fat Knacker sounds content. Our woodburner is not yet connected but the cat is lying prostrate in front of it as though it is glowing with heat. She must have seen it done on telly. :rotfl:
Weather is filthy here.Looks like it's not going to be as bad as expected though and will be worse on the west of the UK. Those of you in the south and east shouldn't get the gale force winds hopefully.
Edit. Welcome to Becky and Thegoodolddays. :hello:0
