Think so...that wasn't the Nimble bread ads was it? I remember Nimble, bread with more holes than actual bread :D but I did like the taste of it.

Cor you cant beat a bit of bread from T2sco, baked on the premises, ohhh I can taste it just thinking about it...:D. Me and hubby always say that if you get a fresh tasty bit of bread daily you dont need anything on it, well and inch of butter go down nicely..!! so yummy.......:D

Our T*sco's just a tanning salon! They bring it in part cooked and brown it off.
I find Morrison's better (freezes well an' all).
An inch of butter is, of course, obligatory!
    Normal people worry me.

I can't eat any supermarket bread. It sends my heart into an erratic rhythm and it pounds away for an hour or so. I can eat bread I make at home, in small quantities. Maybe I've found the reason

I'm about 8st4 and my doc is always telling me to put on weight! I'm 5'3 ish. Trouble is when I do it ends around my tummy:o

I'm also 5ft3 and vary between 8st4 and 8st7 or so. I put on a stone last year but it went round my tum mostly and I felt sluggish and unfit. I feel better for being lighter. I think some people manage to put on weight 'evenly' but I know that putting on the weight in the tum or chest area isn't good for health.

ed to add - thanks for the soup link squeaky. I am a great lover of soup of all kinds. We've just finished a big pot of spicy veg and tomato. I have started adding split lentils to it as well. DH doesn't like lentils so I can't add too many or he will notice hehehe. I got a huge bag from one of the ethnic shops near me - goodness knows when I will finish it! I think tomorrow's soup will be carrot and celery as we haven't had that for ages and I got one of the big Te$co cheapie bags of carrots yesterday. Certainly soup weather here - and I've had curry twice today - firstly softstuff's lovely chickpea curry and then I met my DS at a fab Indian restaurant in Edinburgh, the Mosque Kitchen, and we had curry there. I had sag aloo (potato and spinach and soooo spinachy) and tarka dal with rice and a samosa. Blimmin' tasty.

oldtractor - good job I wasn't eating soup when I read your post as I would have snorted it - thought you said "a can of parrot and butternut squash soup"

scottishminnie - I've no doubt that your doctor has targets to meet re obesity because of the government's current obsession with it - and as GP's targets come with £ attached I'll leave you to draw your own conclusion about her motivation.

IF you go back to the same doctor - and I wouldn't - let her know that you are well-informed about BMI, that your current weight is 26.4 BMI, ie only a bit over "normal"; that "normal" is somewhere between 7st 10lbs and 10st 5lbs and that the 7st 7lbs she wants you to be would make you underweight. I think I might also try to lose exactly 10lbs so I could sweetly point out that this put me in the "normal" range (whilst not meeting her 1 stone demand). And if she started on about BMI not being a completely accurate calculation I'd say that nothing else has been shown to be either. Can you tell this sort of PC-doctoring makes me mad?

Had a nice surprise today - my favourite blackberry spot is having a second flush of ripe berries and I also found some field mushrooms. Will be back there tomorrow with picking equipment and am hopeful that the small mushrooms I left will have grown nice and fat overnight - best set the alarm tonight.

I have finally finished the great curtain revamp as far as the sewing goes. So tomorrow the bedroom curtains come down to be washed and the new ones go up. There was only one long side of each of the 4 curtains to do plus a bit of fiddly sewing with the curtain tape ends so I did it by hand - turned out a lot more professional than doing it on the machine and it was quite a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours whilst listening to a story tape. I enjoyed it so much I'm now looking for a new sewing project.

Treated myself to a CS bargain dvd at the weekend so off to get under my snuggler and watch that. Have a good evening.

Not often I'm in accord with the Daily Wail but on this one I am, you can't beat proper bread made with flour, yeast, water and salt! I have no digestive problems with the supermarket stuff just can't face eating it, DD flat out turns her nose up at bought bread which can be a bit embarassing at other people's but at least she's discerning!

Charis - Have you tried spelt bread? It's a primative wheat that hasn't been mucked about with so lots of people who struggle with bread or wheat without actually being full blown coeliac/wheat allergic find it a good alternative so you can still have all those lovely bready things that you'd miss otherwise. Not tried it for pizza but it makes really good nutty tasty pastry (if a little short).

Charis - thank you for the bread article - doesn't surprise me one jot. I've pretty much given up buying bread - bought 3 loaves last year and only one so far in 2011. Last year's were all when I was having visitors and worried that I'd run out of bread and not have time to bake, this year's was a sourdough loaf, as I've been making it since January, and wanted to buy one from a decent baker to see if mine was turning out as it should (it was pretty much the same).

I just love the whole breadmaking process - and the bread comes out different every time - different additives (of the proper kind!), different recipes, etc. I do have a bread machine, but mostly do it by hand. It really doesn't take long, and doesn't use a lot of energy either (I bake it in the micro convection oven or in the Remoska mainly.)

  • Thanks to everyone who confirmed my thoughts - my GP is nothing more than a po-faced old trout with a target to meet which no doubt will line her fat pockerts even further. I know I'm over the weight I should be however my priority is being fit not thin and I'm at my happiest pushing myself in a spin class before an hours body attack so she can go take a running jump. She had the cheek to say that overweight people should be forced to pay for the NHS due to what they cost it. Stupid woman seems to have forgotten about things such as tax and national insurance. Anyway I'm planning to ignore her for the next 3 months, do as I please, and be ready for an all guns blazing battle next time.
I can't change GP unfortunately -it's a small rural practice where everyone knows everyone else and moving to another GP in the same practice would cause ructions.

The funeral today went off ok. The family were amazing, so composed and together, very few tears which helped me immensely. I'm fairly controlled until I see someone else howling and then it sets me off. I'll pop in and see the family members before I go on holiday next week and take some home baking. It suddenly dawned on me today that I hadn't sent a sympathy card which I was horrified at. I don't know if it is because mum was so close to her friend and we saw her and the family a lot that I've been focused on getting the funeral over and totally forgot about a card even though I was organising flowers.

There was a definite nip in the air here this morning so I guess summer isn't coming back :( on the bright side though my outdoor tomatoes are plentiful even if all but 2 of them are green! If they don't ripen over the next week I'll be frantically making green tomato chutney the night before I go away!

I lifted most of my beetroot about 10 days ago and have laid it out in the garage, warm and dry. Will it be ok to leave it there for another month or so or will I need to make it into chutney now?

I'm off to bargain hunt tomorrow lunchtime - I need some everyday cutlery. My dishwasher seems to have finished off the current set so I need to replace them. There is a shop in Glasgow called Watt brothers which has all sorts of household items so that will be my first hunting spot.

Off to read back through the posts - I wonder - am I the only one who posts first, then reads and has to edit??

Finally the work is done! I have been busier today than 10 men BUT I think the Cellar of Doom is close to being tamed! The OH was having a paddy over the Vandex (some stuff that has to go on the walls) as it wouldnt mix properly. I went down and said "oh, it's just like mixing a cake" and covered all the corners round the bottom. Then when it came to applying it on the walls OH was having another problem and I watched him for a while then said "oh it's like icing a cake"! Neither of which he had done before but I was away then. :D I'm not so sure that was a good thing though as he then let me do the flipping lot! :rotfl:Now we sit and wait for the rain to see whether this has finally worked.

The front door has been painted for winter as has the porch area and the wood shed door.

By the way, does anyone have any ideas as to how to remove gloss from carpet or clothes please?

Ooh - is that the new one on Nicholson Square? I keep meaning to go and try it as I've heard so many good things about it. I'm just back from Vietnam House: a one woman restaurant on Grove Street - it was yummy!
