I recently made this soup: http://www.peter-thomson.co.uk/foodc/chicken_soup_pressure_cooker.html (left out turnip/swede) and it was absolutely delicious. The tarragon made it particularly nice, and no trace of the red lentils at all when it was cooked.

This BMI business is so debatable & like a lot of other medical 'fads' will, doubtless be replaced by some other measure in time. We used to have weight charts by height & small - large body frame which made more sense. As an h/visitor I spent a lot of time reassuring mums upset by colleagues over their baby's weight on the centile charts when factors like family build in infancy etc were ignored. Personally find my dietician the most sensible ofall the medics- first time I'vd lost & kept 3 stone off for last 2 years -forget diet mentality, change habits permanently & enjoy everything in moderation. It really works!

    Morning everyone.
Today is one of those days that hasn't start well. I got a call at 9.15am to say that my friend M's Dad has died. He has been hanging on since Thursday and the Nurses and Doctors
were amazed that he has lasted so long. It's a blessing that he has passed as his suffering is now over, but I know that his family are going to be grieving for a long time. The fact that M's sister is getting married in less than 2 weeks isn't going to help.
I now feel in limbo as I want to do something to help, but there isn't really anything I can do.

So I have the first load of laundry in the washing machine, I've added more sugar to the elderberry vodka that I started 3 days ago and I'm summoning the will to clean the oven. Anything to put off trying on my posh frocks. I have a few dresses in the wardrobe that are suitable for the wedding, but I haven't worn them in a few years and I'm scared they won't zip up. Depression, agrophobia and a love of food don't make for a size 0 figure. I dread to think what my BMI is, but as I don't agree with the results they give I don't really care.
I hope everyone has a good day xxx

As for cold sore creams etc follow the example of drs & nurse prescribers & buy products by their generic rather than their trade names to save money. As long as the active ingredient e g zovirax is the same they will be equally effective often at a third of the price!

Another vote for the Tesco Aciclovar cream. I've found it really works well and it's less than half the price of Zovirax.
    Normal people worry me.
  • Hugs SDG31000 - I'm sorry you're having such a poor start to the day, and I'm sorry to hear about your friend's father. I'm sure just letting them know you are thinking of them will help them. Could you volunteer to do some cooking/baking for them?

Good luck with the oven cleaning - I've just emerged from 2 hours of scrubbing and rinsing mine. Whilst it ain't perfect it's better than it was: at least I can see through the glass door now. I've just slathered bicarb and bleach paste over the grouting and sealant in the bathroom and am leaving that to work. Meanwhile OH is making serious in-roads into de-cluttering the garage.

But the big question is - have we done enough to justify making a batch of twinks for a mid-afternoon treat?

Yay for common sense, now my DD is 2 I've stopped letting them weigh her even at the paedriatric clinic she goes to, (she's hypermobile) and say that as long as she looks ok that's fine! Fortunately the paediatrician agrees with me and doesn't do to weight thing! We don't have scales in the house as I've seen so often kids getting weight concious when there is no need. OH is a big guy but as a warehouse man he is very fit and I'm naturally skinny (too skinny for most of my life, I'm about ok at the moment 15 weeks after having DS but know from previous experience that I will go back to being too skinny) DD was 91st centile for weight last time she was weighed at 18 months but she is also 91st for height so it's completely in line. So far DS looks to be taking after me 91st for length but only just 25th for weight but I'll stop weighing him once he's eating well and properly on real food with the rest of us and just go on clothes fit and looks like with his sis.

Rosanna79 - totally agree with the diet mentality - change habits and everything moderation - absolutely

Siltwalker - yep me too. I think too many kids ,who dont need to be, are obsessed with their weight

My DD1 was very long and skinny when born - not considered under weight - but impossibly long:) DD2 wieghed less but was much shorter. However both by the age of 2/3 where 3ft tall and I was told that this is a measure of half their adult height - indeed DD2 6ft and DD1 heading that way:rotfl:Me I am 5,3 on a good day I might be 5,4;). My OH 5,11 which he claims is 6ft:rotfl:

Thank you 7 week wonder. I made sunday lunch for everyone yesterday, which is probably why my oven is in such a state now. I decided I'd rather suffer the trauma of trying on dresses than clean the oven. Thankfully they still fit, so that is one less thing to worry about.
I say that you have more than earnt a batch of twinks. Add some chocolate chips and have a couple for me please.

Bless them, we we buying OH a bike recently so I can have the car more often to take the kids out and he claimed to have an inside leg of 30"! (turned out to be 27") so I gently pointed out that this might be the reason the bottom of his jeans always go raggy and and it might be an idea to buy the short leg next time - he just hurumphed!:rotfl:
