Hi all, oh dear its starting to get dark much earlier now.........its been nice sunny day here today again , we havnt been out over the bank holiday its not the best time to get out because of all the traffic and people about, so ive been pottering in the garden and in the home too...........

Did make a nice plum and apple crumble for dinner, that was beautiful,:D.......hubbys been resting and sleeping alot this week , he went into a care home 2 wks ago to give me a weeks break and came out worse than he went in, he is so tired since, he said the care home was too noisy at night with dementia cases shouting out etc, lights on and off........so beings he has been so tired and stressed he as had problems with cold sores keep trying to break out, ive so far used 2 tubes of zorvirax cream @£6.89 per tube in a week............:eek:used to get it from the Drs on prescrition but Drs dont give it out anymore, so off to the chemist I go........so what have you all been up to on the bank holiday, anyone going anywhere nice.?

I havent been to a boot sale for the past 7 weeks, cant seem to find the time on a Sunday, you have to get up so early to get the bargains, One thing I have been doing when I go to the boots in the past is get loads of second hand books for hubby, I was getting some everytime I went and I stash them away for him for the winter, that way I only pay 20 p a book, and some are very up to date, he likes war stories, or anything like that, so at least he will have plenty of books to read over the winter................

Im not looking forward to the coming months I hate the winter and I hope I dont suffer too much with this dam SAD that I get every Sept through to Feb........im going to hibernate until Feb, :).........
Ive been building up a good bit of credit through the spring/summer on the gas and elec, so im well pleased with myself, well weve had such a good spring/summer being able to dry outside and havent used the tumble dryer since Feb, that helps so much..........

I hope you are all well and hugs to those that are not..xx
  • I am looking for inspiration to use up some yellow split peas other than making pease pudding which OH hates - any recipes would be great

since money is so tight I was looking at ways to make thriftier meals and tried toad in the hole with four pork sausages we had left, and the batter. I had to use brown plain flour so wonder if that is why my batter turned out all stodgy and not nice. Does anyone please have a foolproof recipe for making toad in the hole that will give us a decent, yorkshire pud-like batter? :D

I dont think brown flour does make good batter, but this reminded me of a recipe I got from a lady who was very good at stretching meals and I learned a lot from her. She used to make a savoury mince mixture in a frying pan, adding onions, carrots, anything in fact. She then used to transfer it to a 12 muffin tin and warm it in the oven covering it once it had heated with a yorkshire pudding batter. I have had a google for a similar recipe but cannot find one so presume she must have made it up.

huge (((hugs))) because I think you both need them - the active ingredient in zovirax is Aciclovir - thats what you need - pound land have tubes of coldsore cream called Virasorb at .....£1!!!!! its exactly the same - or B00ts do their own brand - from memory its a ouple of pounds cheaper than zovirax - I used to be plagued with coldsores and the poundland stuff worked fine. Hope you can get to a store or know someone who is near one to look for you. HTH. And have you tried the light boxes for your SAD or the right lightbulbs??
    Peace will be mine

Hi there , I know other alternative creams have been suggested but for me, I found a product called Virulite and got it from Lloyds pharmacy and cost me £20 - at one point I was getting a new cold sore nearly every day but this has really helped. It clears the coldsores in really quick time and surprisingly I haven't had any for ages (oh that's just jinxed it all hasn't it!).

It works by emitting a light source - I have attached a link for you to have a look at. (I do not work for or have any attachement to this Co., just a very happy coldsore sufferer).

I suffer with coldsores occaisionally too when I get run down. I was told by a pharmacist that the active ingredient that deals with the cold sore is Aciclovir. I used to use Cymex, which used to be around £2 a tube. I didn't have an outbreak again for years but I bought Tesco's own, at around £2.50 and it cleared it up in a couple of days, I think the concentration is around the same in both products.

I'm patiently waiting for an excruciating sore throat and fever to pass. My OH and kids have been fantastic, it's just annoying that I can't be anywhere near them in case they catch it. I'm a hermit :(

    Hope everyone is ok x
