It was getting tough in 2006 and the workhouse still threatens us in 2011

This BMI business is so debatable & like a lot of other medical 'fads' will, doubtless be replaced by some other measure in time. We used to have weight charts by height & small - large body frame which made more sense. As an h/visitor I spent a lot of time reassuring mums upset by colleagues over their baby's weight on the centile charts when factors like family build in infancy etc were ignored. Personally find my dietician the most sensible ofall the medics- first time I'vd lost & kept 3 stone off for last 2 years -forget diet mentality, change habits permanently & enjoy everything in moderation. It really works!
I'm beginning to think I should have kept the various height/weight charts I had - as they would appear to be currently "out of fashion" as a way of operating - but I do believe they are a very sensible way to estimate things
...apart from for babies (as you say) as things can go totally differently in adulthood to what one would expect from them as a baby (ie I was a right little chubbychops - but that hasnt been the case as an adult) and a sibling of mine was very "lean" (and is now...ahem...errr...NOT small shall we say;)).
I dont do BMI measurements - as I dont rate them as nearly as good as the old height/weight charts. I checked my own out under this system and it came in the acceptable range - but I still dont rate it as a system personally.
EDIT: you've given me food for thought actually -as I'd never realised that those slimming magazines had "upped the ante" on "desirable weight" by that 1 stone approx in recent years because things have changed from height/weight tables to BMI measurements. I just thought it was because most of us compare ourselves with the peeps we see in the street - and had upped the level because of that...DUH! Slap head smilie...another reason to disagree with BMI then...0 -
I have leek and potato soup cooling in the slow cooker ready for blending (insert yum-yum smiley here!). Home grown potatoes, even yummier!
I'm 4ft 8 and at the beginning of the summer, around the end of May, I weighed nine-and-a-half stone and my trews were getting a bit tight .... I have since given up wheat, after finding out that I had an intolerance, and the weight has come off nicely since. I weighed myself this morning and I'm eight stone twelve :T I will aim for just above 8 stone, which according to the BMI tables is still too much. However I am built like a Shetland Pony :rotfl:short and stocky. My other excuse is that I cycle everywhere so my thigh muscles weigh more than they should :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I must have used a good few calories this weekend - I have been volunteering on a charity stall and it has been blooming freezing. The met office website says it's 12 degrees but I think it must be below that as this morning we could see clouds of our breath. Still, if my body had to work harder to keep warm that's more calories gone ....
Soup should be cool enough to blend now so I'm off ....Aspire not to have more but to be more.

stiltwalker - my dd is skinny mini too and I used to be in tears at baby clinic as a her 'line' dropped - then I had the revelation that I didn't have to go i I didn't want to! She eats well but is always on the move and at nearly 5 still weights less than many of her friends did at 18 months - but she is healthy and happy so thats all I care aboutPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Oh my goodness - my gob is well and truely smacked!
I'd read on these boards about the magical powers of bleach and bicarb paste. But I must admit I was pretty sceptical when I applied the stuff to my bathroom tiles and sealant a couple of hours ago - I was thinking I could always nip off and get some nasty chemicals when it didn't work! Well blow me, I've just been and rinsed the paste off and I have shiney white sealant. It is amazing! Ok I need to go back and do a few bits I've missed, but over all the result is wonderful. And OH is mighty happy because it means we can remove the "replace bathroom sealant" from his to-do list.
The twinks are temporarily on hold as I'm running out of time before we go out this evening - but they are top of the list for tomorrow morning.
SDG31000 glad you managed to find something to wear for the wedding, but now you've got no excuse not to clean that oven
Enjoy the rest of the day everyone0 -

There's a thread here:

But basically I just put a load of bicarb into an old ramekin and then mixed it to a thick paste with thick bleach. I applied it to the grouting and sealant using an old toothbrush (but next time I might use my finger, safely inside a rubber glove). I left it on for two hours and then simply rinsed it off, no scrubbing, nothing......:j0 -

Thanks 7ww0 -
Did not get the day out OH wanted today as DD2 did not get out of bed when asked so he decided non of us were going. At least it means we have not spent any money.
OH and I went for a long walk and found apples, greengages, wild plums, bullace, blackberries and sloes. I feel a large preserving session comming on.
Have checked out uni brochures with DD1, just need to sort out open day visits now. I think it will have to be OH that visits with her as I am still having to work extra shifts at the weekend to make ends meet. These visits will aslo hve the added expense of fuel costs so it does not make sense for me to take time off to take her and not earn the money we need.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Nonsense.
I'm 5'4" and have always been between 8 -8.5 stone and this year my GP told me to put on some weight, said at my age (48) I should aim for 9-9.5 stone.
I finally did it (9 stone )and hubby says I look better for it and I'm still a size 10
My BMI is now 21.63
Your BMi would be 18 @7 stone and classed as underweight:

Ignore your GP or go again with info from the NHS link above.
I'm about 8st4 and my doc is always telling me to put on weight! I'm 5'3 ish. Trouble is when I do it ends around my tummy:o0
