Hey all,
We've had some bad news today. OH's parents, nan, sister and her family went to Menorca on Saturday, to celebrate his mums 60th birthday. Last night, his nan fell and broke her hip, and is having surgery on it today. I'm finding it really hard not knowing what's happenning - I'm a radiographer (I take x-rays) in an orthopaedic hospital and see things like this a lot, and just want to ask lots of questions, but being in a different country am having to hold back - I think if it was someone my side of the family it would be different, and I'd be booking my own interpreter and calling them!!!
One big worry is will she be back in time for the wedding?? I know that patients who have hip replacements are usually discharged from hospital about a week after the op (sometimes more, sometimes less) but I don't know what surgery she is having (replacement or pin), and she'll have to be transferred back to the UK. I'm really worried she won't make it back in time, or if she is back will she be able to travel down from the north, and if she can't, should we think about postponing it.
I guess things will become apparent in the next few days/week or so, but I just needed to get my thoughts out!! I feel so sorry for my MIL to be, she was really looking forward to this holiday for her birthday, and she's spending her special day (today) in a Spanish hospital with her mother, who is awaiting surgery. Fingers crossed it all goes well!MFW 2016 #32 £1574.66/£1500:j:j0 -
Oh laura, so sorry to hear that. I'm hoping she'll heal quickly and be able to come to the wedding too x0
-
Thanks Pinzy. She had surgery yesterday, and they said there's a very slim chance she might be able to travel back on Saturday, their original return date, but I don't think that's very likely. It looks as though MIL to be will have to stay out there with her for a little while until she's ready to travel back.
Nothing has been said about postponing the wedding, so looks like things are still going as planned. We paid the photographers final balance yesterday, I think that's the big things paid now.
I also printed out copies of the readings and have put them in nice frames (Ikea) as gifts for the people reading them. Just hope they get approved by the registrar!! They said they don't know their schedules until 4 weeks before, so we can't make an appointment with them yet as we don't know who will be performing the ceremony.
The other gifts we have ordered have been arriving, really pleased with them all. Still not sure what to get for my mum, but I was thinking of getting a rose bush that she can put in the garden and remind her of the day. I've got her a few other little bits, and have Dad an engraved Zippo lighter that I'm really pleased with. We also bought them a Scrabble board (bit of a joke in our family) and have bought them a new digital camera, as theirs isn't great. I managed to use most of my Nectar points towards that, so am very pleased with that. When I write it down it looks like we have really gone overboard but my parents have been so great that we really wanted to thank them.MFW 2016 #32 £1574.66/£1500:j:j0 -
Really sorry to hear about your OH's Nan Laura. Hope she is OK and can make it over for the wedding.
The rose bush is a really good idea as it will last. I am thinking of booking to take my mum and sister for afternoon tea as an extra present for helping with so much stuff.0 -
It's weird the different ways of doing things in different registrar offices - we had our meeting yesterday and they don't know who's doing the wedding yet.
Mind you, the lady we met yesterday couldn't take her eyes off my OH, so there may be a catfight come wedding day! Ah well, extra entertainment for the guests!
It seems we're having singers, and after meetings with the venue and registrar I'm a lot happier about who's doing what. Now it's just getting the fiddly bits done, oh and finding a make-up lady..0 -

Hope everyones plans are going ok.
How is your OH'S nan Laura?
Pinzy - that is good news about the singers, i am sure it will be amazing.
My Mum knows one of the local registrars and she had a look at who could be doing our wedding and said she will tell them we are friends of hers . Really sweet although i am sure they are all lovely anyway.
Went to my dress alteration appointment on Friday. Not much needs to be done which is good. Just the strap being shortened, taken in a bit at the top, and length taken up. Am picking up on friday.
Also managed to make most of my placecards. Have told OH he has till Friday to chase up last few people.
Have nearly finished getting things for kids goody bags . Just need to get some bubbles and then some little bits for the babys to go with their books.0 -
Hah! The singers... after a few emails back and forth I'm really not comfortable with giving them money! They won't give me an invoice until I've paid a deposit (though it seems a few do that), keep adding extra money on, and ignored my email requesting a total cost. Think we'll end up going with a karaoke version of the songs!
Had final dress fitting on Saturday, and it's perfect! Perfect perfect perfect! So pleased!
Still haven't got a make-up artist sorted..0 -
Hi everyone, hope it’s all starting to come together.
That’s terrible news about you OH Nan Laura, how is she?
That’s a shame about the singers Pinzy, it does sound like you have probably made the best decision as I too wouldn’t feel comfortable giving them money. Glad you dress is perfect J
I bet your dead excited about picking your dress up Wendz.
We have paid for the cars and I have started to look at the timings working back over. OH finished the favours for me whilst I finished the place cards, I still have the roses to do but will do them this weekend. I have done the table plan and have them ready to take to the reception unless someone drops out. I don’t know whether to leave them plain or stick some roses on them. Most of the evening guests have RSVP’d now, better late than never I suppose.
We take the fruit cakes to get iced sometime this week and make payment for that and the sponge cake, I really can’t wait to see our sponge cake.
I’m really looking forward to my hen do next weekend. I cooked dinner for the family on Sunday (9 of us) and my sister let slip that she has bought feather bowers, shot glasses, naughty straws and whistles to go with the sashes I got. I was quite happy with just having sashes as originally I just wanted to go out normal so we don’t draw attention to ourselves (me) but I guess it’s all part of the fun. I’m dreading to see what she has in store for me but whatever it is I will embrace it after all I’m only planning on doing it once. I know a strippers out of the question since we are cruising up and down the river tees so that’s a relief.
We tried our cats in the cattery as OH had to do a sleep over at work and I was working in Cambridge for a couple of days. They were only in for around 32 hours but they absolutely hated it. They were defensive and although they didn’t actually attack anyone they had the staff that worried that they wore chainmail when they went in to feed them and change the litter. They hardly ate and when OH picked them up he said they looked so scared so it looks like putting the cats in the cattery for a couple of days for the wedding is not possible. I am now looking for a cat sitter so that we can still go away for a couple of days in August/September.
I can’t belive how close it’s getting for us all. I’m starting to suffer from anxiety again but I kind of knew it would happen but at the same time I am super excited. It seems that even OH is excited which is unusual as he never gets excited.
How’s everyone else feeling?0 -
Aww lisa that's lovely that the OH is getting excited too! Mine seems to actually be getting a bit worried we won't get it all done in time - he's usually so laid back he's horizontal! I decided last week that I'm not going to be stressed, I shall be excited instead, mainly because my back won't cope with constant tension! So every time I start fretting about something I make a point of lowering my shoulders and breathing slowly. Also reminding myself that as long as we, the registrar, and witnesses are there, that's all that matters.
Was planning to stay at my Aunt's the night before so I'd go to bed early, but each time I see her I get a thousand questions of "is this sorted?", so may stay at home to avoid that but will have to be very disciplined about getting to bed early!
Saw the cake lady yesterday, so that's all sorted, and it'll look lovely! Tonight am having a wedding catch up with best mate who's acting as wedding PA so she can field any questions on the day.
Saturday having a meet-up of both families.
Sunday car-booting to pick up decor bits,
Monday is hair trial
Thursday is make-up trial
We still have to:
buy jewellery, shoes for kids,
Finish making my bouquet
Get flowergirls & bridesmaid dresses altered
Make Order of Service
Make flowergirl headbands
Sort my emergency kit
Pay people!
The to do list is actually rather longer, but it's down to priorities now! Things like "make toiletries basket for loos" is a nice to have but can be scrapped if we run out of time!0 -

What a shame about the singers PInzy. Glad you got make up sorted though. Sounds like you are really busy.
Thehen do sounds fun Lisa. I think sometimes it is fun to go with all.
Shame about the cat hating the cattery , a cat sitter sounds like a better option for you if you want to go away.
Definately looking forward to picking up dress tomorrow.
My poor Mum has had an operation on her hand yesterday so is now off work for two weeks so i need to try and think of something for her to do. Hard with one hand though!0
