MrsChaos, I think that, regardless of "maturity", 7 is young to be left alone in the house - and if a child was left in my care I would tend to be over protective rather than less protective, if you see what I mean. I hope you can find some suitable alternative - you've enough on your plate.

Prevaricating over paperwork. But my hair is scrubbed, and my washing nearly dry!

Thanks for the input. He is quite sensible, but still only 7 and that makes it illegal, I believe. It was only a very short walk, but MIL is not the youngest and doesn't take her phone with her.

I'm with pigpen, I'm afraid. She seems to be losing the ability to make sensible decisions where the dog is concerned. I know he's old and unwell, but I'd have made the dog wait or DS2 come with me. Fortunately I have a few other options, as I can't take him with me to the hospital.

I think what would have made more sense would be to take your DS with her for the walk...

I would not be pleased either MrsC. WOuld have just taken the child on the walk with me.

I do not believe that it is illegal to leave a child alone in the house but if anything happens to them when on their own then the person could be done for neglect as it would be seen as their fault if something happened.

There isn't a legal age limit to leave a child alone apparently though it isn't good and certainly not advisable.. and very much frowned upon.

Did you speak to her about it? I would stipulate he is not under any circumstances to be left alone in the house if he has to be left there again and if he is you will have no option but to find someone else to watch him in the future.

    Morning all

Had another good night's sleep and a cuppa in bed while looking at messages. :D

Time to get going now and make some breakfast before starting on laundry and the kitchen. NNs are back from holiday so I hope that DS2 will have a playmate later. I'm also waiting for DS1 to get up to see when I'll be hospital visiting later - unless NNs will look after his brother for me.

Can I ask for views, please? MIL looked after DS2 (7) yesterday, while I went to the hospital. (She couldn't come because the visiting times and her dog walking times coincide.) She left DS2 on his own, watching TV, while she took the dog for a short walk. Two of my friends thought that was unacceptable and I wasn't best pleased, either. Am I overreacting?

I can just see some sunshine through the blinds and I'm hungry, so I'll 'see' you later. Have a lovely Sunday, everyone. x

    IMHO - TOTALLY unacceptable!

Hope things pan out better for you today...

DS is flying to Spain later with his best mate for a holiday (1st one without a parent there!)

I am a bag of nerves about this! Various discussions have been had :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: - fingers crossed he's OK

well i was planning on doing not alot of anything today but a massive bumble bee flew down from my loft this morning so i flung a towel over it till i got my spray and locked kids in the bedroom (via the stair gate on the door not an actual lock! dont report me haha!) came back up and the towel was moving! i have never ever seen on this size! anyway it was dispatched but the towel and a new 5 pack of socks got covered in fly spray so ive had to go wash them.

also DS2 managed find a bit of chalk and crumbled it into the carpet while i was dealing with bumblebee godzilla so out came the hoover. while it was out i decided to give the whole upstairs a quick going over too.

So will I be when the time comes for DS1 to go off with his mates. At the moment he's not got the money to afford it. Keeping fingers crossed for you that it all goes smoothly and your DS has a great time with many happy memories. Where are they going?

NNs are back and with other friends nearby, childcare is taken care off. :D

That was my thought, too - I'd have thought a spot of fresh air would do DS far more good than sitting in front of the telly, in any case!
Or could the dog not pop out to the garden for a tiddle if taking DS for the walk really wasn't an option?
Just my twopenn'orth - feel free to ignore.:o

Most of today's must-do tasks are done or under way (Mr LW is hoovering as I type):A Ted doesn't like the hoover, so Mr LW's doing all bar the lounge to start with, then I'll take Ted outside for a game of Fetch'n'Tug while the lounge is done.;)
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
