vintage = modern Primark

The title part I concede, it should say vintage style, she mentions the brand name though in the description.beckyshields wrote: »No but I tell them the brand name, it is misleading she is the listing the item as vintage in the title meaning 20 years or older. These items are not 20 years or older so that is a lie, it means that people searching for actual vintage items are mislead by her title and would have to click and read to see that it is not actually vintage. Titles are there to help people to search for what they are looking for, not to knowingly mislead people.
But lets be honest this thread is nothing to do with the wording in the listing, it's to do with the fact the seller dares to buy and sell primark dresses on ebay.0 -
No, that's not my issue at all. I don't know about anyone else. I don't care what she sells as long as its done honestly.0

No it isn't, it started as how can a brand new just bought from Primark dress be sold as vintage.
It then went on to misleading titles & descriptions and keyword spamming.
In a shop such as Primark, New Look, Top Shop, if you see a sign for Vintage, you know darn well that it's going to be Vintage Style, or pretend.
If you want the real deal, you don't go into those shops as you know you won't get what you're looking for.
On ebay, you have to do a keyword search, so you put in vintage, then you have to wade through all the crap that isn't Vintage, so not as easy.
I like vintage housewares, put that into a search & it will take ages to find the actual stuff as opposed to new knock offs.
Vintage Eiderdowns are a fine example of sellers keyword spamming, there are generally several of these listed.
Read the description & the vintage becomes new, in the vintage style & the filling is a new synthetic quilt.
I'm not sure where they find polyester growing on the eider duck, so no vintage fabric no down from the eider duck.
So why should they be able to list that as a Vintage Eiderdown, or even style?
Again in John Lewis I wouldn't expect to find a vintage one, so wouldn't go there to buy one.0 -
I emailed & asked ebay about this, they finally got back to me today & the answer is,
Thank you for your email. My name is Brandon and I apologise for the
delay in responding because of the technical issues.
First of all, I really appreciate that you want to comply with our
listing policies. Please note that you can't use 'Vintage style' for a
brand new item as that would be considered as Misleading title.
I hope this information answers your question and I wish you all the
best for your future trading on eBay.
Kind regards,
Brandon ******

So all of us who say it's wrong are correct, it's a shame that ebay don't though come down hard on people who list in this way.The title part I concede, it should say vintage style, she mentions the brand name though in the description.

No it shouldn't, ebay say that they don't allow it.
It's just a shame that they don't do anything to pull the listings & tell the sellers how they should list the items.0 -
I am surprised that there are buyers who do not mind new items being referred to as vintage. I sell mainly old collectable items but I occasionally get brand new things to list as these can often be a cheaper version of a truly vintage item.
I'm obviously far too honest in my listings though and maybe next time i buy cheap imported plastic beads from China I should list them as 1950s vintage lucite beads and then just mention in the auction terms that these are actually brand new.
To me that would be dishonest and I wouldn't do it, but does anyone honestly think that is the right way of doing things.
Last year I sold a single item of Vintage Victorian jet jewellery and I've just noticed I can buy a knock off modern version from Hong kong.......

I personally have no issue of buying something that is the style of something older but its new. Being told its old when in fact its new is very different.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0
