I tend not to bother now, although I did get annoyed enough at palming off Primark stuff as gold plated that I reported that one. I also did the 'not registered as a business seller ' bit as well, not that I expect it will do any good.

I emailed & asked ebay about this, they finally got back to me today & the answer is,

Thank you for your email. My name is Brandon and I apologise for the
delay in responding because of the technical issues.

First of all, I really appreciate that you want to comply with our
listing policies. Please note that you can't use 'Vintage style' for a
brand new item as that would be considered as Misleading title.

I hope this information answers your question and I wish you all the
best for your future trading on eBay.

    Kind regards,

    Brandon ******

So all of us who say it's wrong are correct, it's a shame that ebay don't though come down hard on people who list in this way.

Vintage isn't a style though. Vintage means it's old.

I would have described the original dress as a rockabilly or swing dress.
Don't look at me, I'm irrelevant.

I think its open to interpretation though really, its like a replica item when its a blatant copy of an original lol.

    From Wiki
    Definition

Generally speaking, clothing which was produced before the 1920s is referred to as antique clothing and clothing from the 1920s to 1980s is considered vintage.[citation needed] Retro, short for retrospective, or "vintage style" usually refers to clothing that imitates the style of a previous era. Reproduction, or repro, clothing is a newly-made but faithful copy of an older garment. Clothing produced more recently is usually called modern or contemporary fashion. Opinions vary on these definitions.
Most vintage clothing has been previously worn, but a small percentage of pieces have not. These are often old warehouse stock, and more valuable than those that have been worn, especially if they have their original tags. Referred to as deadstock, they nevertheless sometimes have flaws.

    s.

It is ebay though, so it they say 'vintage style' is not allowed then sellers using it run the risk of having their listings pulled.

  • They run the risk of having their items pulled, but ebay never actually pulls them. Retro would be the correct way to list these items, the seller originally in question though isn't actually calling her clothes vintage style, shes just calling them vintage. A blatant liar!

I don't see anything wrong with this, it's no ones concern where a seller gets their stock from, this is called business and happens everyday. Just because ebay doesn't like "vintage style" doesn't mean it's not a legitimate phrase which is used in thousands of stores all over the UK and beyond. Most of the time people on here bang on about reading the description, well I will say it again, the description is not misleading, the only part that is missing is where the dress came from, but do any of you sellers on here tell the buyers where you got your stock.
  • No but I tell them the brand name, it is misleading she is the listing the item as vintage in the title meaning 20 years or older. These items are not 20 years or older so that is a lie, it means that people searching for actual vintage items are mislead by her title and would have to click and read to see that it is not actually vintage. Titles are there to help people to search for what they are looking for, not to knowingly mislead people.
