Anglian Windows mis-sold PPI

Hello all,
I was, in my opinion mis-sold PPI by an Anglian Windows representative in my house about 4 years ago.
The loan, which I didn't want but was told I had to take out to receive a large discount, was taken out with Clydesdale Bank, owned by Barclays. A couple of weeks ago I sent off the standard reclaim form to Clydesdale Financial Services. Last week I received a letter from Barclays stating that as the loan and PPI was sold by a broker, Barclays were not liable. I was informed that my information was sent onto Anglian windows.
Are Barclays trying it on with me? As far as I'm concerned, the agent I dealt with was acting on behalf of Clydesdale/Barclays.
Has anyone else had this reply from the banks?
I guess I'm in for the long haul if my dealings are now with Anglian Windows. That's if previous experience with this appauling company are anything to go by.
Any reply would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Simon and welcome.
That is correct, as the window business arranged the loan, its them that's liable.
Barclays is the bank that takes the payments every month.
What I would do in your case is write to the business and make sure your complaint has been received, or ring them, whatever you prefer.
Good luck with this.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

OK, so I've received a rather fast reply from Anglian Windows Limited.
It seems I am not entitled to receive any compensation as a discount of £2,065.00 was provided to me by taking out the loan and the optional PPI. The letter states and I quote:
"This £2065.00 discount would not have been available if the PPI policy had not been taken. The discount was higher than the PPI premium of £1013.04. On the grounds that the discount outweighs the PPI premium, I conclude that you have not been financially diasadvantaged for proceeding with the policy and I am therefore unable to uphold the complaint".
The next bit gave me more of a cause for concern:
"This decision is based the consistent findings we have received from the Financial Ombudsman Service. Where there has been no financial loss to the customer, the Financial Ombudsman Service has upheld these cases in our favour".
Is this the end of a short road for me? I still consider I am entitled as regardless of any discount, I was still sold insurance I did not need. I have bank statements that prove I could easily cover this loan at the time of taking out the policy.
The letter also goes in to the "cooling off" period of 30 days as against my case. Surely if this were the the case then no-one would be entitled to compensation as this is statutory.
I will be taking this further to the Financial Ombudsman Service, regardless of the quotes earlier. After all, I have nothing to lose but the price of a stamp.
Any further advise would be greatly appreciated.

you need to write a polite letter back to them and point out that you got the discount on the basis of taking out the loan, and not the PPI, you need to explain what was said about the PPI (maybe the salesman said that you had to have the ppi to get the loan) not sure of your reasons for the purchase of PPI.
anyway, keep the loan for the discount you recieved and the ppi sale two seperate topics.
explain that you want them to re-look at their decision on the basis that you were miss-sold the ppi (for the reasons that are applicable to you) and if they do not give you a satisfactory explanation then you will refer your complain to the FOS.
explain that single policy premiums are no longer sold as they are deemed an unfair policy to the consumer.
if the details of the policy were not explained to you properly by the salesman it would constitute a miss-sale.
the fact they are trying to say you have not been financialy dis-advantaged by taking out your loan with them has got nothing to do with a miss-sale of a PPI policy.
i am sure you had alternative quotes for your windows at the time, and as with mine, the window company matched the price i could have got elsewhere, so you would have got the discount anyway.I'm proud to say that the banks no longer take money from me after becoming debt free0
