can't say I was surprised to read she'd died, but I do think its a waste. she used to be so beautiful and had a great voice and original songs, but she just threw it all away its not like no one tried to help her.
its her dad I feel sorry for you could see how much he was doing for her.

yes I agree the news in norway is more important, how someone can carry out such atrocities is beyond me.
just a pretty sad time overall right now I think

she never did though. she went to rehab to stop her family and management badgering her. she was quite open about that.

I still don't believe that she was oblivious to the fact that her behaviour was an issue, she must have known that the drugs and drinking were harming her and none of us will ever really know if deep down she wanted to beat it but never felt she had the strength, maybe she didn't believe she could.

Still everyone is entitled to their own opinion,i do feel sympathy for her and feel it is an awful waste but i respect the fact that many will not.

I think the one thing that is hard to disagree on is the sympathy
for her family and friends who are left behind and will suffer for it more than anyone.

Wow...calm down poppet! What was rude about it? Unless Darlyd was a personal friend or family, tears are slightly OTT. Perspective. I stand by it.

Really?? Funny how because its a celebrity its a really sad thing, yet when lots of other young people die from drug abuse people brand them as irresponsible and no real loss to society. This country seriously focuses too much of their attention on this fake celebrity culture rather than on real people and real issues.

My thoughts go out to the HUNDREDS of family that lost people in the horrific shooting today, not just ONE family because a member of that family CHOOSE to use drugs!!

I don't confine my empathy to celebrities,in fact generally i have very little interest in them and i have never branded any person in the way you describe,i find drug addiction very sad and any death that comes from that is tragic.

I am also very sad for the families who have lost loved ones in Norway, some of those poor families are still waiting to hear news and don't even know if their relatives are alive or not,it is sickening,it is horrific and has been on my mind a lot.

It is possible to seperate the two events and to feel empathy and sympathy for both,it isn't exclusive to one or the other and feeling sorry for one family doesn't mean i don't feel awful for others too.

As i have said i understand why there will be people who have no sympathy for Amy herself but her family didn't ask for this, they have lost their daughter at a young age and that is tragic however it happened.

The poor people in Norway, this piece of news will now possibly overshadow the hell that they are going through. Children who didn't throw away there lives.

I understand the theory behind comments like these but I don't think they're particularly apt.

We only know of the Norway situation because it made the news. Statistically, 574 children under the age of five will have died in Chad today but that won't have made the news because 209,000 kids under the age of five die every year in Chad and there's nothing remarkable about it as far as the media is concerned.

Perhaps the Amy Winehouse story will get more media attention than the massacre in Norway and maybe that is wrong but it is to be expected. It doesn't overshadow the Norway situation though any more than the plight of the children in Chad is overshadowed by what has happened in Norway. I'm sure the people in Norway who have been affected by this evil act couldn't give a [expletive beginning with F] about the news coverage of this atrocity, they just want answers and justice.
  • I'm watching the bbc news right now and Norway has more coverage by far than Amy Winehouse. I'm in Holland and their news has similar weighting.

Celebrity has been around for a long time one way or another and now we know even more details about their lives, so it's not the same as when something happens to a stranger.
The events in Norway are something that happens rarely and are very shocking. It's sad, like Tropez says that many children die everyday and it's not news worthy, because it's more commonplace. Someone on the bbc just said that 7 (I think?) people will die today in the UK from drug/alcohol addiction.

You know, you can grieve for both tragedies...one isnt sadder or more important than the other....no one is a winner. Sad to say but more people can relate to Amy's death because they feel they knew her more than a bunch of facelesss Norweigians(and I dont mean this in a heartless way).

I never said for one moment that both incidents aren't sad, and very devastating for every family involved. As harsh as it may sound I haven't broken down in tears for either, why?? Because I don't know any of them who died inc amy winehouse, yes it is very sad and my sympathy goes to all the families who are having to deal with losing someone.

You made the perfect point though more people can relate to Amy's death because they feel they knew her more, really, so you hung out with and were in her social circle?? I very much doubt it, you read about her in the newspaper, who put her (and every other) celebrity up on a pedestal which the newspaper would praise and flout when it was good for them, and then run them through the ringer when they knew it would sell more copies. There are more of these "celeb" type mags now then ever before, do people buy them because they are interested in someone elses life or is to escape from reality?

You only know Amy Winehouse from what has been published, whether half of that is true or not! A glimpse into their life not an hour by hour publication!
