You only cook the chicken for 5 mins? That scares me, I like to seal it in oil, then simmer for 30 minutes

And....a word of warning for the veggies: green curry paste often contains fish sauce!

    see here for example http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/greencurrypaste_67789.shtml

(though I guess there might not be many veggies reading this chicken thread it is an issue when we cook for them! You just would not believe how many things are not vegetarian!)

well..I always use left over chicken which just needs to be reheated and absorb the sauce a little....maybe I should have mentioned that...
and prawns don't need any longer than 5 minutes or they go rubbery.
proper thai green curry paste from an asian supermarket doesn't have fish sauce in it, and I assume most veggies check anything unknown anyway..I certainly used to ...

Ah, left over chicken....that's ok. Didn't want anyone poioning themselves. You are right about the prawns if they are pre-cooked - you literally just need to warm them, anything more and they go very tough

Veggies do check, and you have to remember too when you cook for them, hence my last edit on the post above - who would have known that wocester sauce isnt' veggie? Luckily my veggie is a Pescatarian (I know, it makes me laugh too)

hahaha..at pescatarian..i have heard 'demi veggie, and semi - veggie' before too.
Even fresh prawns don't need more than 5 minutes. We buy huge frozen boxes of them as we have a little japanese shop nearby which does 40 for a fiver..you have all the hassle of shelling and deheading, but dp does that as I can't stand to see their faces..hehehehe

My best friend is a vegan, and I was veggie for years so I am pretty clued up on checking packets and labels, though I imagine most people aren't. Reminds me of the bit in 'the royle family' where he brings his veggie girlfriend home and the gran says 'ooh it's a shame for them isn't it!..can't she have a bit of ham?''..hehehe'

I've tried the chicken in the slow cooker thing and it worked a treat
    But

i think i may have left it in there too long (About 12hrs) as when i took it out (Or tried to) i ended up with loads of little bones in the chicken that took me about an hour to fish out :o

    Am i doing something wrong C_Q ??

The meat should be falling off the bone so that is why you have to fish them out.

If your chicken (raw) is sliced thinly (which it should be for fast stir fry dishes) then it only needs 5 mins or so to cook through ;) ... if using fresh prawns, any longer than this and they will go rubbery and tough! ... and in any case I would fry it off in hot oil first before adding any sauce :D

I agree curry queen..for a stirfry or such it doesn't take long,, but surely if you used raw chicken in my above recipe it would take longer, as you can't have the heat too high and it is swimming in sauce?

This is why I would fry it off in hot oil first to seal it, then put back into the sauce after to finish cooking through and pick up the flavours ;)

Some of the things I do with chicken after the roast:

1 - stir fry it with onion, sweetcorn and peppers in cayenne papper, add water, herbs and stick cube, simmer and serve with pasta

2 - cook with onion, courgette and peppers, add chopped toms and herbs, simmer and serve with rice or cous cous. I lOVE this iwht cous cous and coul eat it every day!!

3 - add it to water, stock cube and veggies and make it into soup

4 - make sarnies with salt and butter *yum*

5 - add it and an onion to bought curry sauce (sorry, Curry Queen) serve with rice

6 - fry with chopped bacon and garlic, simmer in chopped tom and serve with pasta. I also do this without the chicken.

7 - My mum adds it to leftover gammon, cubed, and does it with pesto over pasta

8 - Fry chicken, cook pasta, roast veggies, mix with pesto, add grated cheese *yum* Also do this without the chicken

9 - put chicken and random veg in casserole, add water and stock cube and/or chopped toms, bake for an hour, serve with cous cous or pots

Blimey! there's more than I thought!
