Oakhams are great there is no doubt.
I was lucky enough to get a large one on friday night, as part of the 10 meal deal.
Large oakham chicken
Packet of asparagus
2x thier fresh OJ ( we dont really drink , we have loads of wine in at the mo)
Massive ( would feed 4, we had plenty left over) Sticky toffee pudding.
Considering the chicken is worth 6.70 or whatever on its own, the rest was pure bonus.
So far out of it we had a huge chicken/ wedges/ salad/ bread dinner on friday
OH had a sandwich out of it
Weve got the legs left and a bit of breast so we will probably make Spicy empanadas for dinner and a spicy oriental style noodle soup. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I know the oakham chickens are expensive but the flavour is unbeatable and I have tried the others. Look out for various offers from time to time I like mine with lemon and wine!0

I went to M&S at The Fort shopping centre yesterday, and they told me that the Oakham chicken wasn't part of the tenner deal  So I bought it full price.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I only buy 'happy chickens who walked gratefully to the slaughterhouse
' - and I haven't tasted any as nice as these.
Lynzpower I too was told they weren't part of the tenner offer so you were lucky.
I buy Oakham at full price occasionally - I can usually find one in the freezer bought when they are on special offer. OH wouldn't go to till with me last time - 8 chickens and 1 pack of reduced peasA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Oooh yes, Gallygirl - Chicken and Mushroom Risotto! This is what happens to our "happy chicken" - roast on Sunday (we have some of the breast meat), legs cold on Monday, then the carcase is stripped and if I can't get to it right away, it goes in the freezer ready to turn into stock later. Depending on the size of the chook, some* or all of the leftover meat goes into a yummy risotto on the Wednesday (*if there is enough, DH has a chicken and ham sandwich for his lunch). Soooo for a £7.00 FR Happy Bird (usually about 1.75 - 1.8kg), we score at least 3 meals for two AND yummy stock :j .Obedient women are never remembered in History!

Is the M&S Oakham chicken free range? I always thought it was a slightly higher welfare than standard but still barn reared and not technically FR? This was years ago though-have they changed it? I know they used to do an Oakham gold that was FR-so is that all of it now? Would be good to know, keep avoiding the chickens in the dine 2 for £10 offers0

So I'd like to use them up but don't really know what to do with them, we don't eat curry.
Rissoles and soupI'll add this to the existing "rubber chicken" thread so that you can browse more ideas

End of the month and 5 days until pay day so I need to find 3 meals from one chicken.
Any suggestions? I have read though a few posts and like the sound of maybe a chicken noodle soup, risotto etc.
What sort of things do you cook to stretch your chicken out?0
