Too frightened to leave neg feedback in case it's reciprocated

My view would be that established sellers would never leave any feedback, I know I wouldn't risk coming across a flaky buyer. Therefore new buyers who were trying to build up a good feedback score would lose out as no one would risk getting a neg they couldn't 'act' on.
Honestly, would 'any' seller leave positive feedback blind for a new buyer?

Eh?!!
What sort of crazy logic is that? Your posts give off the distinct air that you absolutely HATE ALL newbies to Ebay as they're all dodgy and untrustworthy. What a sad view to have. Perhaps you've forgotten that YOU were once a newbie on Ebay and if everyone else had taken the stance that you have then you'd still be on a feedback rating of zero right now. :rolleyes:doccer1967 wrote:It has struck me that the answer to this "problem" would be for E bay to publish feedback from buyer & seller at exactly the same time ie. each party only becomes aware of each others feedback once all parties have posted.

Yes! I think that it's an absolutely EXCELLENT idea and I'm 100% with you that it would indeed stop the pathetic tit-for-tat feedback thing and give both parties the chance to be honest without fear of receiving dishonest retaliatory feedback.
GOOD IDEA! I'm impressed! :T :T :T

Are you saying you want scammer's negatives never to show up, because the scammer never leaves feedback? Think it over...My TV is broken!

I love newbies I have no strange terms and conditions banning them from my auctions or anything and I welcome them with open arms. However, I have been stung before by new buyers who think 'neutral' is acceptable for a transaction that went perfectly, and on one minor account I was once left a neg by buyer as he changed his mind and thought he was leaving feedback that suggested that no transaction took place, as in a negative purchase, luckily he was suspended as a non paying bidder and his feedback removed.
As examples of newbies not understanding feedback are fairly common I would not leave feedback unless I was assured they fully understood how ebay works.
The idea would also backfire on anyone who leaves truthful feedback, can you imagine as a buyer where I have left negative feedback ever being left a positive in a blind situation in case I negged them?
If feedback was blind I probably would not leave any more feedback at all.
As it stands at the moment I am happy to leave a positive even before I get any in return in many cases, but am also happy to hold off leaving feedback until later for new buyers or those who I can see have left neutrals or negs before.

I find that is a very strange attitude to have. The majority of my business on Ebay is as a seller and I NEVER wait for feedback from the buyer before leaving mine. I think it's a pathetic way of doing things and very childish. Like you, I've had my share of buyer's who you either just can't please no matter what you do or simply don't understand how the system works, but that's life - you just get on with it.
In case you haven't noticed, there is a feature that allows you to reply/follow up feedback that's been left - can I suggest you try using it and then potential buyer's will be able to see both parties' comments and judge for themselves.

Y'know, that pathetic, childish way of doing things is exactly what ebay recommend.

I rarely leave feedback for buyers until I have had theirs - too many bad experiences with leaving feedback when the payment arrives, and then getting completely unjustified hassle because the buyer has misunderstood something about the item, or not read the description properly.
One guy gave me hell three months after the end of the auction for not including a cable which the auction description clearly stated was not included!
Also, I often have overseas bidders buying video games who then can't get them to work, despite all my auctions stating clearly what region the game is for, and that it won't work on consoles from other countries.
So, as far as I am concerned now, the transaction isn't over until they have received their goods and are happy with them - and have indicated so by leaving me good feedback. If they have a problem, I'm happy to work it through - but if they want to be an a*** about it, I reserve the right to leave them a neg.

You certainly do seem to enjoy antagonising people. You may well be happy to sail along with a feedback of 96% - some of the other people here aren't, so they employ these ways of helping reduce the amount of false negatives they get. There are different ways of doing things you know - unfortunately, your attitude in general seems to be that if someone doesn't see things your way then they're an idiot. I suggest that perhaps you are being the childish one in this respect? In case you haven't noticed, there is a feature that allows you to reply/follow up feedback that's been left - can I suggest you try using it and then potential buyers will be able to see both parties' comments and judge for themselves.
I am aware of this, and use it when necessary. But let's be honest - the vast majority of ebay buyers don't go scrolling through pages of feedback to read all the comments, they just look at the topline rating. Once your follow-up is off the first page of your feedback, the chances of anyone reading it are next to nil.
(P.S. ... no apostrophe on "buyers")For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also ...0 -
Snooze control I think we may need to agree to differ. I am proud of my feedback, some of the positives I have are wonderful and yes i do go out of my way to help my buyers resolve problems wherever possible.
My point on this thread has always been that actually not getting feedback is not a bother to me, if I don't get it I don't get it, so what. Even where I have left feedback I don't lose sleep if it isn't returned.
If my feedback rating dropped to an unacceptable level then I would just assume I was doing something wrong and either set out to resolve whatever issue there was, or give up ebay.

I disagree. if i notice that someone has neg feedback i look at the feedback to see why as it could be a simple thing that happens now and again like package was damaged or something worse. That would sway my view rather than just neg feedback.I am aware of this, and use it when necessary. Surely most buyers would check feedback details to see reason for poor feedback score? Us British are nosy by nature!! :beer:0
