It's still not a good idea to NOT inform a landlord who does not want DSS that you are DSS - as said, this could potentially lead to homelessness if the landlord found out, and you would need a substantial lot of money to be able to do this while waiting what could be months for your LHA to come through.

Most people on benefits would not be able to afford that risk, especially if rent is several hindred pounds per month.
How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.

From my past experience they do contact the landlord. My landlord had told me they had contacted him to confirm things. On the form you have to put certain details and your landlord of the agent on behalf of your landlord has to sign this form that you send back to housing benefit department. So it would make it hard not to tell them you get hb ! :D
I don't think it will affect your money kent guy, well not your disability or income support, just notify them of your change of address BUT if you currently get hb where you are now and you move to scotland you will have to cancel your housing benefit claim where you are now and begin a brand new claim when you get to scotland, this is what I had to do when moving from Cardiff to Swansea. With this comes more problems because HB will only pay from the date you move in and usually landlords want rent up front and bond before they'll give you the keys to move in.
Nannytone is right, when the rent goes down the amount of HB or local housing allowance (for private renters) goes down. The amount you can get will always reflect the rent prices in the area. Hows the house hunting going ? :)

Apart from anything else, many landlords have mortgages and/or insurances that don't allow tenants on benefits. It would be very foolish indeed for a tenant to do something that would mean that their home was uninsured.

I don't think its a good idea to lie to the landlord either. When I told the agency that had the house I wanted to move in to that I wanted to come down and meet them and that I could provide a guarantor they were more than happy to give me the house even though they originally told me no when I first rang. This has happened with the last 2 houses I've lived in.
It's a shame that we all get painted with the same brush, there's a few that spoil it for all of us !

thats life in general though isnt it?
the people that take advantage and try to get something for nothing always ruin things for people that abide by the rules.

Living in a lovely little town in Scotland isn't going to make getting a job any easier and I can't believe that a small Scottish town is going to be more tolerant of you as a transsexual than an urban area in the south east of England, particularly as you'll have to deal with anti English sentiments as well.

I think you're going to be shooting yourself in the foot by looking at this sort of move, I'm afraid.

Well kind of in a predicament. rent down here is expensive £475 cheapest 1 bedroomed place iv seen privately. Council is putting housing benefit down to £250 for under 35's or something along those lines.

how is a person supposed to live on £250 a month when the rent is £475?.

As one former Tory Constituency Chairman I used to know always quoted:

"Are there no prisons? Are there no workhouses?"

Welcome to the world of millionaire David Cameron and millionaire Nick Clegg, not to mention millionaire George Orborne.
"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock

thats because under 35's are no longer going to be entitled to a 1 bed flat, theyre going to have to share.

People are supposed to share with others, just like they would be doing if they were actually paying the rent - in fact, I thought you were sharing at the moment.

The one room LHA rate, which is what under 35s will be on soon, can be as low as £53 a week in Scotland with one bedroom accommodation in the same area coming in at £71.
