Hi people, ive been a lurker for quite sometime and basically i have been appointed to try and get some of the bank charges back for my girlfriend
We have followed the process up to the where we put in how much. We have the bank statements and im really confused on how they come up with "charges* or "interest" but dont give you any details on why they took it. Just a cost on how much it was. Anyone else have this problem with natwest?
im guessing if i was to question them they would tell me where to go :rotfl: so im asking if anyone on here if they maybe have a key to how much etc they are. She had a Advantage gold Extra account and was charged £9 a month which we know we cant get back. but the description is excatly the same for that as for random £38, £27 charges! The date,A/C and the account number.

Another one that gets us, is Unpaid items, S/O £xxxxx Loan Account then an Amount.. Im guessing this could be the standing order charge? for there not being enough money in the account?

Any help would be great in nailing them to be boards.

Rex- I think I should post, and let us be brutally blunt, YOU CANNOT CLAIM FOR ADVANTAGE GOLD. This thread was posted by me to show how to work out the charges from the bank statements as Unarranged Borrowing Fee and Advantage Gold fee were merged in 2002.

This is correct i have advantage gold and used the service especially the free travel insurance and no fee foreign currency exchange
They have offered me all my charges back excluding the actual advantage gold fees which i feel is fair enough so i have written to accept it
Received £4541 reclaimed from Natwest :j:T

I wouldnt worry too much about the reason for the charge i put together a simple spreadsheet which uses their terminology for the charges in you case you could put "Unpaid items, S/O" they will work out the account fees which they will deduct if they make you an offer

thanks Edinburghlass for putting me in the right direction :) very much appreicated :)

there are a few points i would like clearing up after reading this post.
1: After a long discussion withn my girlfriend she is insistant that she was miss sold the account and havent used any of the advantages that came with the account as the previous mentioned about, like the free travle insurance etc. When she went into the branch, she took her wages slips in as her employers wanted to start paying her in BACS rather then cheques. So she wanted to set up a current account, the advisor recommened that she set up a advantage gold account because of the amount she was earning. 8months later she realised she was getting charged and not using it so it was swapped * 8 months x £9. Is it possible we could came them back? for the missold reason? im sure the statements would prove that she didnt use the overdraft or any of the other advantages of the account?
2: Ive read the way you have put the unarrange borrowing fee statement on your very first post, but its worded slightly different here. As below:

The charge is based on a Unaranged Borrowing Fee of £28 *Amounted dedected £28*
Advice of debit interest fr the period 5 march 2007 to 1 april 2007
The debit interest for this acount is £9.67. This amount will be deducted frm the account xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx on 30 april 2007

The £28 im sure we CAN claim for but the Interest? is that possible?

3: Terminology again *sorry* As written on the statement:

    Charges 02mar A/c xxxxxxxxxx £28
    Charges Unpaid Item(s)
    S/O £155.61
    Loan Account £38

Can someone clear up what loan account is? the charge is £28 for the standing order of £155.61.. whats the £38 for? and can any of these be refunded?
4: D/D unpaid items i can claim for right? £35?
    5:again as statment shows:

    Interest 06aug A/Cxxxxxxxxxx £4.61 Withdrawn

this amount is never the same but always comes up as interest but withdrawn? is that the interest they are charging you for the overdraft?

any hep with this lot natweststaffmember or anyone would really really be a massive help to me. i myself have no charge issues as ive been a good boy ;) but its not always easy to keep myself in the green and out the red.

BTW this has been typed twice as i somehow double pressed enter and it logged me in and lost the writting id wrote! i hate it when i does that!!

its not alot but this money she is owed but will go towards abit of happiness i hope.. :T thank you

dd unpaid items are when the bank hasnt paid a direct debit and charged you because they havent done it and yes you can claim for those
the £38 is also an unpaid item ie standing order in that case and again you can claim the £38 back
Received £4541 reclaimed from Natwest :j:T

anyone else that could give me anymore thoughts/ideas/help on the above post with the missold account? and with the interest we was randomly charged

im gonna start adding up, the bulk now, i can always add the rest on later.

without this website and the people that post on here in there spare time, i dont think 99% of us (me) would know what to do or the procedure would be to achieve this far.and for that i THANK YOU.. :D
  • Can anyone please tell me if you are able to claim back charges made on the advantage gold account for the charges that you have to pay every month on that account? It gives you lower interest rate and priveliges such as travel insurance etc. My husband never used those priveliges and feels that the charges weren't justified. Cheers

No you can't. You were paying for a service. Whether you took advantage of that or not was your decision.

As an ex Gold Account holder, ditch it. It's sh!te. :)
