Hey Tappers - we make apple and plum crumble. As Julie says, stone them and then bring to simmering point on a low heat with a little sugar and water. For a pound of plums I would use 2 tablespoons of water and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Watch them as they get towards boiling as they rise and make a horrible mess if they spill over. (That's what happened to my plum chutney last year and it was a $%^&* to clean up!) You can of course go all sophisticated and bake them in the oven. Heat oven to 200C or Gas 6. Split them in half, take the stone out, put in an oven proof dish and sprinkle with a little brown sugar in each centre. Spread over the grated zest of an orange and pour over its juice. Bake in oven for about 20min. Lovely with ice-cream:) x

come on you clever lot ;)- nobodys answered my request on how to prepare plums for a crumble! Am I just being simple cos I dont know?

You either have to stone them, cut in half lengh ways and twist each half to seperate, then dig the stone out (bit like an advocado) or you can stew them up stones and all in water and sugar, and then go through and fish the stones out after. I have tried both and both are fiddly, but I think I prefer to de stone them raw.

Once stewed and cold you can freeze them for use in the winter, or as you said, make a lovely crumble xx

Reverbe - I wanna know too!

JackieG - did you manage to tax car?

Today flew by in work, time is going too quick this year! Got absolutely soaked walking 2 seconds round corner from minibus to work kid's presentation :( . They did a good presentation, funny and confident. And the good news is that 3 of them have got jobs as a result of doing our programme :j

Came home with more cardboard boxes, really need to start packing them!

I'm tempted to order a very non-OS takeaway tonight - pizza - my arguement is that if i don't have to cook then I will pack more stuff :rotfl: :o.

    Have a good evening all

Tappers, I've only just seen your posts, as I only just now got as far as reading the Daily....:o

I also got given plums..... I cut them in half, leaving the skin on, removed the stones, arranged them in a round enamel pie dish with a sprinkling of sugar over, I then made a topping of 8 oz porridge oats, 2 oz sugar, a smidge of cinnamon and enough margarine to make it bind together. I covered the raw plum halves with this mix, and baked at 180 C for 45 minutes.

It's delish! We just had some for pud. HTH.:o

    Oh, and Happy Birthday Shalva.
