Debs' debt-free dreams

  • Hi there, found your diary and have subscribed, and shall join you on the naughty step!

I owe loads of money, and am constantly scheming and planning too...

    xx
    Trying to shift that debt!
  • Ah ha, that's me told good and proper. I have sat on the naughty step and contemplated my behaviour... and am pleased to say it has been rectified (by wine) and shan't be repeated!

Been a bit spendy today again, oops, well it is payday however, I shall attempt to justify as follows:

£10 fake tan (should have been 15 but discovered to my delight I had money left on my 'beauty parlour' account!), this is because I have a wedding tomorrow and my best friend gave me a dress (Monsoon, brand new, never worn and in my size. She says she bought it and never wore it, dubious as we're not the same size and never have been, think someone is just playing the good fairy and wants me to look half decent at her little sister's wedding) but it's purple and I am white. Pure Irish white, but paler. The saving on a posh dress vs a tan allowed me to justify this one.

£55 in asda, nothing for me, all cards, presents and cash back for presents in cards! Oh ok, I bought bagels for breakfast for the whole household but they were reduced to £1 :D

£4 on insoles so I can wear old shoes to the wedding from when my feet were fatter.

Oh, and the Euromillions but you'll all have to agree that's worth it or I won't share :rotfl:

See, nothing like a Friday to bring on a happier mood! Have a fab weekend everyone

hi when you've finished with the cleaning faries can you send them my way? although we're much better now than we were after the blitz before the estate agent came around today. Was a bit annoyed though as he was 45mins early and all we needed was half an hour to finish the last room and it would have looked almost, slightly, lovely & perfect

Oh no, nothing worse! My MIL is babysitting tomorrow hence the cleaning fairy need, however she called round earlier while the place was in it's full dirty clothes/dishes and piles of toys and papers finery so that's the illusion I was hoping to create shattered! Sure the minor mess won't affect anything, you can tell them what to market it for anyway no matter what they say.

Was kinda hoping the hubby might be the cleaning fairy for the day, however some muppet got him hooked on the idea of paying off our debts so he went and did one job and priced 2 more instead. I'll be bin bagging everything and hiding it in the wardrobe to be sorted Sunday! :rotfl:

...as cunning as a fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University

Anyhoo, I've been thinking  I know I said the other day that this year will be pretty much taken up with expenses and I couldn't make any headway on the debt, well I've realised I was wrong and am quite chuffed that finding this forum (ta Max) has shown me the error of my ways! I did the snowball calculator and was amazed to see that if I kept paying the same amount out every month, I'd have paid off the debt in 25 months (bearing in mind the loan itself has 5 years to run). From next month the energy bill goes down £47 after giving a meter reading, but also DS3 gets his government vouchers for nursery which will reduce the bill by about £130 I reckon. Now, unless I get cunning this will get absorbed into the OD and most likely spent so here comes the plan... I'm going to work out what is due out of each payday (mine is midmonth, DH's is end of month) and set a standing order on paydays to a different account for this amount once I have rang everyone and changed the direct debits (you still with me?). Now, this means all the money goes at once and I can't spend it for a start, but also means that if I never reduce the SO, then even when those 2 bills go down, I will still have the same amount to pay bills/debts with in that account. Does this make sense?

Ha ha, that is so familiar! OH is a great cleaning fairy (as well as super cook, I have to be honest in case he reads this and thinks I'm pretending I do it all - I don't cook!) when calm but put him under pressure and he's likely to do something completely random (like cleaning the garage)! I kept phoning and telling him to prioritise, the laundry can wait (it's hidden), the dishes can't! Think that's why he went to work (after doing the laundry)!!!

bless him.... mine is so like that, his favourite tidy up is to put things in carrier bags, then the carrier bag fairy (moi!) has to spend forever searching for things to tidy them away properly.

I like your cunning plan tis fabulous! That was one of my first stages in DFW'ing to set up another account for all the house DD. Now i have.....
Joint current account for house related DDs/SO's
Current account for my DD's, eg loans, credit cards, car related savings, normal savings etc
Current account each for OH and Myself for our 'spending money' not that there's much of that.
I feed the other current accounts and then what's left in our individual accounts is for us not that it's often very much.

Ha ha, he puts things in my handbags and dumps them in the hall. Large things get noticed and taken out however I frequently find random things in my bag when I get to work! I have socks in there at the mo :rotfl:

Tis all joint accounts now (some people can't be trusted and are actually happier having no responsibility!) after paying off his OD and CC (once I found he was being chased for the payments) for the 2nd time I've given up and taken over! I have 3 accounts so I will use one as the bills a/c -the 3rd is my emergency pot, it has the child benefit go in each month and gets used for 'surprises' like the fridge packing up or the car needing repair... which leads me on to my pondering for the day... my car is due service, MOT and tax this month, now normally I'd just go ahead and do all these with the dealer, however a friend has offered to service the car for free (he's not a mechanic but is a tinkering expert - he fixed last month's breakdown for me). Do I go ahead and have the service (it's due a full service, not an interim) and have everything stamped and guaranteed, or let him do it and save £140ish? I do have to drive down south next month and I think I need 2 new tyres soon too, is this money saving too far?

Anyhoo, treated myself to a new oven glove tonight, £4 but I don't feel too bad since the last one was 8 years old next month and well past being useful!:D

i do all the finances for OH and myself as well, he's only got an overdraft of about £100 which i hate but can't seem to change him. I'm glad he's happy for me to do the finances though as after my mum's first marriage she brought my sister and i up to be the ones in charge of the household's finances.
