Anyone else giving up smoking?

The other half and I gave up on the 2nd Jan when we came back to work. I was smoking 15 a day and him 20.
We've got onto a new plan through our doctors where we check in at our chemist's once a week, get CO2 tested and then we get given our patches for the following week. All we have to pay for is 2 subscription charges, one for the first 4 weeks and one after that for the lower prescription.
Biggest motivation for us when we worked out on day 3 that so far we had saved a massive £27.80 in cigarettes. That's a joke for 3 days worth for the two of us!
Good luck to everyone else. What has helped us massively is working out our weakest time of day (it seems to be between 4:30 and 8pm when we would be thinking about winding down at the end of the day) Now we know that we have got through that sticky 4 hours or so 3 times we know we're onto a winner.
That and the fact that all of the women in my famiily who haven't smoked have had cancer starting from the age of 40 and I'm about to hit 30. It's time I grew up and faced responsibility for my future health and family plans!0 -
I didn't have one yesterday and when I decided to have one this morning I feel over with a dizzy headache and threw up, I'd only had a couple of draws. I think this makes me an official non smoker as I can't handle them any more :rotfl: You may think eww yak but it reminded me why I am stopping, all these chemicals which make me dizzy and sick, and the taste was manky! Patch is back on, going to see if I can do without any at all.One day I might be more organised...........

Gave up just over 8 weeks ago, the cravings are not too bad now. Still get them, but I know that thats the habit, not the dependancy now.
In fact, someone in my office who smokes just came over and I can really smell it on him. Yuck! that put me off nicely. I used to smell like that
Not easy, but need to stick with it.0 -
So I have resisted for 17 and a half hours so far, and I am really proud of my self. It has been very hard today but hopefully tomorrow will be easier! Started with the patches this morning but they made me really shaky and dizzy feeling so had to take them off. So now I am going the hardcore cold turkey route!!!
The only thing is I think I must be overdosing on Oxygen as I am so light headed and a bit dizzy now! Keep up the good luck people!!! x:TOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 086Proud to be dealing with my debts !Total Debt: Was £6368.84  now £945.36Sealed Pot Challenge 049 Aim £5000 -
I have quit for the first time ever after 23 years of 40+ a day.
I was your typical smoker, panicked if I even lost sight of my fags, panicked if it was night time but I only had a few to last me through until the morning. I was a mess!
I do read about three books a week and am a bit of a speedreader.
I started reading Allen Carrs book at roughly 5pm yesterday evening and I had finished it by 11.45 pm the same night.
I was then determined to stop, I had over 30 cigs left in 2 packets and I broke them all in half so I couldn't smoke them.
My hubby was amazed, I am sure he thought I would never , ever quit the dreaded weed.
Allen Carr focuses on the fact that you are addicted to the nicotine itself and the withdrawal symptoms of this are actually quite mild, its the brainwashing that is the hardest to get past.
Anyway, I have gone for almost 19 hours without a cigarette ( unheard of for me) and it hasn't been very easy but neither has it been horrendous.
I keep getting this strange empty feeling every so often and it gets quite bad but then it passes within a few minutes. I suppose I have never had the empty feeling before and am unable to recognise it as I always had a cigarette in my mouth, every hour of every day!
Well done to all that have stopped so far, I truly hope we can all stop for good!Stopped smoking Jan 2007 after 23 years!Cigarettes NOT smoked = 240,945Smoke free days = 11 Years :TCash saved so far = £125,45,110 -
I had my last cancer stick last night. Put a patch on this morning ( left over from one of my failed attempts ) managed to bite the head off one of my collegues today ( he had it coming
) day one nearly over and this time I never ever want to have another one. Got the Allan Carr book but kept putting off reading it. I am going to try with the patches and then try to go cold turkey from there
wish me ( and my collegues ) luck :rotfl: I have also got that silkquit thingy and I think its great - i love to see how much I am saving. Just dont want to put on too much weight though

Spend the time reading it. It will make you understand what you are feeling by giving up. You sound determined to do it, this might make it a little easier for you.
I am now on day 8 of giving up, and I am actually quite excited about it, because I feel okay. Have had nicotine withdrawel symptoms, but really just feels like a mild cold, but thats starting to go now. I am still every now and then thinking about one, but I am not climbing the walls and it lasts about a minute, and my appetite has increased (this is good for me because I am a bit skinny.) and for the first time last night, after my evening meal, I didn't crave a ciggy. That is my biggest achievement so far.
Keep up the good work everyone.0 -
Monday is the day for me and the OH, we've just spent 10 days in edinburgh with his folks, and its been so difficult to smoke up there it was great! cant wait for the smoking ban here.
Of course I went outside in the pouring rain and 80mph winds for a few tho.
I did try a while ago, but I found it so hard because OH didnt stop too.
I want my hair to smell nice and my clothes to waft the smell of fabric conditioner again :rolleyes:Proud to be dealing with my debts

Bought OH the Allen Carr book off eBay, will sell it back on once he's read it of course. Hoping it helps him as he's not been doing very well, actually doing at all! I also have found him not stopping is hindering me but haven't had one today. One day I might be more organised...........
