    My Zyban experience so far:

Started taking it on New Year's Day (one a day for first six days, then one twice a day for the next two months).

I'm still smoking with the intention of stopping completely on the 11th. They recommend you carry on smoking for the first 7-10 days to allow the drug to build up in your system.

Days one and two were odd (though the first day was combined with a New Year hangover!). Felt very groggy and jittery on it and my concentration was way off (which didn't help going back to work yesterday!). Slight loss of appetite as well - had to push myself to eat stuff. Broken sleep as well, but not so bad that it's annoying, I've been able to get back to sleep pretty quickly.

Day three - groggy and jittery feelings have subsided mostly though my concentration's still not great (a bit daydreamy and forgetful). Cigarette-wise I have noticed that something is definitely happening to my mind whenever I have one. The best way I can describe it is like when you have your first cigarette of the day and a little voice in your head goes 'Aah that's better' on having your first drag - there's something blocking that feeling from being transmitted to my brain (the Zyban, I guess!). They're starting to taste a bit odd too! I'm hoping that these feelings will get even stronger when the dosage increases next week to help further put me off smoking forever. At the moment, smoking seems a bit unpleasant and pointless (like smoking a Silk Cut Ultra Low) but not quite enough to make me stop altogether. I'm positive it's going to work though.

I'll keep you posted with further experiences of my Zyban trip. And very well done to all of you who've made it this long without one - I hope to join you very soon!
    Me in statistics

I gave up on the 8th December. I didn't have any problems because I had been on whyquit.com and it is a fantastic website. I recommend it to anyone who wants to stop smoking.

    Good luck :j
Life is like a box of chocolates, ya never know what yer gonna get ;);)
  • Had my last one at 8pm last night, so far I'm ok. Was bad this morning, plus I need one now, but I've resisted!!

If you pop into Tesco, they have free 'Quit smoking' packs on their Pharmacy, which have tips, hints and vouchers etc. They also showed just how expensive it is - 5 a day (which is nothing), still costs £479 per year!!!!!
    £2 Coin Savings = £0.23:confused:

So's mine:rotfl: :rotfl: we always smoked at the back anyway because of the kids but i've now made him stand outside as i've realised that the smell of smoke actually blows back into the house.

I'm feeling very light headed today and i know i will probably be very tired tonight as my body adjusts to the extra oxygen.

Feeling really positive again and i am going to start swimming again one night a week.

  • I have given up smoking as well, I used to smoke 10 a dayish, but haven't had one for 3 days. I wasn't finding it too hard till I found this thread and imagined standing out in the rain and taking a nice long drag on a cigarette....

Hmm....But there are too many reasons to stop. The quit kit in Tesco has a great little chart, and if you have an OH that is helping you quit, they can award you stickers, like mine is!

Sorry! It's amazing what you'll do when you need a fag, i was watching hubby last night stood outside enjoying his fag and i really wanted to go outside and join him. But it was chucking it down and then i came to my senses.
