Anyone else giving up smoking?

I had been smoking 20 a day for 10 years when I gave up using Allen Carr's book. I had used every other method including patches, zyban and hypnotism and nothing worked.
This books has helped so much and I feel much better for not smoking. The only downside is being at work with people who smoke - the smell is really horrid to me!DMP mutual support number 174Total debt now (April 10) £0! - total paid off £30,221 or 100%I'm now debt free after 6 years!!:jNon smoker since June 2006 :j0 -

I gave up finally, after a few attempts and relapses, 9 years ago with accupuncture (see below - not all accupuncture is the same). Worked for me, never craved another cigarette. The final trigger to make me give up for once and for all was watching my dad die of small cell lung cancer. Even witnessing that, I was so stressed and upset I still needed a bit of help, hence the accupuncture. I wouldn't EVER touch another cig. DH had teh same treatment a couple of weeks later and it worked the same way for him too.
Son gave up this year using the Paul McKenna DVD. Watched it once and has not smoked since. He has a lot more will power than me!
If any one wants to know where I had the accupuncture (this particular doctor has devised his own method and has a 94% sucess rate - honestly, not kidding) PM me - no connection, just want to spread the word that it WORKS, just passing it on.

good luck all you dfw's giving up the ciggies. I did it 2 years ago and know its blooming hard...but SO worth it! I can now take a deep breath without it hurting, which is what scared me into giving up at the time. I had to give up alcohol for a couple of months too as it weakened my resolve a bit ( ok, alot, soon as I had a drink I would nick a fag). I still miss the act of smoking but could never take a drag again without feeling ill. Keep going guys!"grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can and the wisdom to know it's me"

Yuck! Been smoking for over 20 years & dread to think whats its doing to my lungs....I also have a friend who has lung cancer & is a sure advert of why you should give up! Nt telling anyone else as just adds pressure...Got Allen Carrs book earlier in the year so will now read it!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! I had my date to quit planned for 1st Jan. I started reading Allen Carrs book, on Thursday, by the time I had finished it on Friday morning, I decided "why wait?" So it has only been like 24hrs, but I feel so positive about it, and by the time I had had my last ciggie, they actually made me feel sick, and i now remember that feeling.0

It will come. Have you started "consciously" smoking your cigarettes? Thats what tipped me over the edge, thinking about each one.
I am not climbing the walls at all thankfully (yet) Have felt withdrawel symptoms but have not actually wanted to light up.0 -
My wife and I are quitting smoking as a new year's resolution, not just for the money-saving aspect of it but we're hoping to have IVF treatment later in the year and they insist on you being a non-smoker. We're both determined to do it and the possibility of having a baby is a great goal to work towards.
That said, we've tried to quit smoking a zillion times and failed but I think this time it will finally happen.
My wife's going for will power alone (she's actually quite good at this) whereas I'm rubbish and have failed with patches, lozenges, Allen Carr book, Paul McKenna videos etc. But this time I went to see the doctor and managed to get prescribed Zyban which seems to have a pretty high success rate.
I took my first Zyban tablet today and have set the 11th of January as my stopping date (you carry on smoking for the first 7-10 days of taking it and then hopefully, as if by magic, I won't want to smoke again!)
I'll try to post my experiences of Zyban here (side effects etc) and let you know how I get on.
Good luck to everyone else who's stopping smoking and a happy, prosperous and healthy new year to you all!!Me in statistics
