Yes it will be my new years resolution (again!). Have ordered Paul McKenna's book and cd and when it comes I'll give it a try. I've been smoking for so many years it's not funny. Managed to give up for 6 weeks earlier this year. Must do better!

    Well done Tyranny!
I'm now a full 24 hours into it and so far so good - very twitchy last night as time dragged on but I think some of it was expecting to be twitchy rather than actually feeling fidgety if you know what I mean.
Anyway, day 2 now and I'm going to take the dog for a big walk to distract myself without enough money to buy fags from the numerous shops we pass!

    Keep going!
  • I stopped a couple of years ago. It was always the case of Id finish this packa nd be out on the tiles when I finished them and would buy another. In the end I just gave the rest of the pack to a mate who smokes and never touched one again.

One bit of advice (and Im going to get slapped wrists for extreme spending here but it helps in the long run) go out and buy a Nintendo DS and Brain academy.

Fiddling around with teh console will keep your fingers entertained and busy so they won't miss holding the fag as much and playing the barain acadamy will keep you mind busy and will stop you thinking about it and wanting one as much. You also get the benifit of helping build up yah brain cells.

OK a DS is about 70 notes but when you think its 5 notes for a packet of fags and if it keeps you off you the fags you will soon have paid for it.

    Hope that helps.

    Keep up the good effort

Good luck to you all. This can be done! I stopped smoking in June and according to my calculator I've already saved over £800 by quitting (although this hasn't actually been saved, but hasn't been spent - if you see what I mean!).

My thoughts are with you, and you can do it. My tips to you are to read a book called "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr and to change your routines. For me, this meant changing from drinking coffee to tea because I associated the coffee with a ciggy.

    Best of luck!

  • Has anyone read Alan Carr's Easy way to give up smoking ? I know this has helped alot of people and you can pick them up pretty cheap on Amazon and Ebay.

I'm quitting on 1st January too. My second attempt. Last time I managed 7 weeks and was furious with myself for going back.

I'm not sure distracting yourself soooo much helps ? I found that actually facing my feelings was better. To tell yourself you know what the feeling is, your craving for a ciggy and it will pass.

I found exercising really helped too, going for a brisk walk and taking really deap breathes to fill my lungs with fresh air - a good reminder of how good that feels as opposed to filling them with smoke !

    Good luck to everyone.

I would definately recommend the Allen Carr book, it helped me quit November 2005 after smoking for 15 years! (that's scary!) I used that and also hired the Paul McKenna DVD from the DVD club I was a member of at the time. After using both these I know I will never have a relapse, they thoroughly turned me against smoking and now the smell makes me gag.

Anyway, you are all doing really well and good luck with stopping. It isn't easy and before I did the above had numerous failed attempts.
    Good luck
