Hi I feel a bit sheepish - it is much harder than I thought, I am now going for cutting down drastically though.
Monday was supposed to be quit day but I had 6 all day.
Tuesday I have had 3 so far and probably one more before bed very soon.
Decided that I am not giving up but reclaiming my life - more of a positive thought.
The daft thing is I am not enjoying the ones I am having, it is just a need to inhale if I could just light one up and then after a couple of puffs put it out that would be enough because a whole one made me feel a bit sick this morning and a bit dizzy, why did I continue to smoke it??.
I did smoke about 20 a day so I feel improvements have been made, just I was going to stop completely on Monday, so I am a bit down about that - I am doing really well whilst I am work, it is mostly the first one in the morning and the after work and going to bed ones that are difficult. I must say that last night I did not get up to have one, that is a really good thing as I was rather ashamed to admit I did do that and this was mainly due to the fact DD did not wake me up in the night.
Jo what are you doing up so early!!
John I have also read your diary well done, I have a DP with CCCS and you have inspired me to do so much more than just give up smoking. We have only one car now (did have 2) but even then at weekends it doesnt get used much so when 2 cars were sitting there not getting used I brought a bike and we sold the car. It is cheaper for me to get an all day ticket on the bus than to pay parking fees whenever I go shopping as I do not have to pay for DD at the moment and the bus stops are closer to the town.
But I do need to crack this smoking business because I do feel a distinct lack of puff when going up the hills, DD is a bit reluctant to sit in her toddler seat on the bike, so I push the bike as I walk with her to nursery and then cycle to work afterwards.

Kett, I understand completely ! But this thing really is all in our minds. Going to beat the nicodemon. Agree that positive thinking can only help in all aspects. Maybe baby steps is the right way to go ?

I had a ciggie yesterday morning in an effort to say that was it. I did so well out with the kids, not one craving til around 5pm was really intense, didn't give in, thought I had it licked. Kicked butt so to speak !

7pm DH pours half a lager for me, I was on the phone automatically reached for one. Took 3 puffs. I was cross with myself, because I didn't want one !

So that's it, can't trust myself with ciggies and alcohol anymore. Total change of routine in the evenings.

    Good Afternoon all
I had a moment this afternoon (was reading posts on usenet group alt.support.stop.smoking) and I really need to take control. Look what John has done, just stopped. I'm going to do that.

As usual I'm faffing around, making excuses why I can have a puff. Truth is I can't have one because it's too expensive, stinks, and will see me to an early grave.

Had one at 3pm this afternoon and I'm not partaking anymore.

Jo - in an extremely positve frame of mind.

  • Jo,

I am putting out the dreaded weed tonight.........Smoke free as from tomorrow!
My place of work as of the 1st April went smoke free for all staff, however the customers can still smoke......in their cells !!! All to do with their rights and that the cell is their home???
I am also being trained to become an Stop Smoking Adviser....Ha Ha paid by Her Majesty, the idea is that this should help me to stop. I have tried many times before, patches,gum,in-hailer,zyban..............and on and on!! My trouble is my place of work........very stressful sometimes, but i do love it.
But this time i am up for it and very determined. I had a look at the cost today for the first time:eek: £122 a month.............now that is wrong!

Good luck Jo, you know you can do it!!

Well done Prisonsheperd - Let us know how you get on.

Jo - Great news that you've decided to stop. That's how I felt, I'd just had enough and decided to go cold turkey!

    I still haven't had one since Saturday so that's about 4days 15hours.

I am 30 now and I've smoked since I was 17, around 20 a day. It feels so liberating to not be smoking. I just hope I can keep it up :D

    Prisonshepherd,
You have my admiration for many reasons.....including your stress level and stopping in such an environment, where 'PC' rules..ho-hum.

Great idea to become an advisor though, hopefully you can get 'em all too quit !
And you are right the cost is just ridiculous, if I sit down and work it out :
Nearly 23 years, average of £4.50 a packet given the price increases (more than doubled in the time) and 20 a day - £ 37,777.50

    ..sharp intake of breath......

John, thankyou for kind words :) Going for it.

Kettricken, where are you ? How you doing ?

On my second day now, went to the doc to get some patches and she was really horrible and said we don't perscribe them, you shouldn't be smoking anyway, came home in tears, saw my neighbour who gave me a phone no, for the counsellor.
The lady saw me straightaway and gave me 2 free lots of patches and gum.
She was really sympathetic and lovely. so much for doctors helping people give up. she couldn't even give me the phone no of the lady i saw.

    Morning
Bonnie, sounds like a horrible experience. But what an excellent neighbour you have, it's brilliant that you turned the situation round and actually got to see someone. How are you feeling ?

Heres a link to a really good document that is similiar to Allen carr and really brings home the reasons why you smoke and how to stop, it helped me a great deal in the first few weeks while I was still quite vulnerable.

the one thing it does say and what really made me open my eyes is that Smoking.does.nothing .for.you.at.all. (even if you think it does!)
