Thanks for the message Ragtimeplayer. It was your posts that made me see sense. i have just downloaded the silkmeter and here are my stats so far:

"Smoke free for 4 days 16 hours and 12 mins, saving £25.95 by not smoking 93 cigarettes and adding 7 hours 45 mins to my life expectancy"

Jesus, kind of hits home

Good luck everyone and well done Jo for sticking at it. Blogging is the way forward :T

Well done John, I really mean that :T

Wait until your silkquit says what mine does, 3400 odd cigarettes not smoked, that is a mind blower!

I was telling my oh the other day how many I hadn't smoked and he said he could actually visualise those 3400 odd cigarettes lined up on the coffee table, what a ghastly thought
Stopped smoking Jan 2007 after 23 years!
    Cigarettes NOT smoked = 240,945

    Hi everyone

Thanks Ragtime player I have downlowded the SilkQuit programe, just the sort of reminder I will need. Still on course to stop on Monday, I just hope I don't get too grumpy.
I have been fishing out all those started but not quite finished projects (cross stitch/ complicated aran jumper to knit) just too keep my fingers busy when the time comes.

I kinda feel a bit left behind here though, I should have done this a long while ago. Why did I ever start again after the birth of my daughter. I had a moment with her today, I was smoking on the way to the shop and put my ciggie out on the ground and she came up and stood on it too. Frightened the hell out of me - what am I doing to her.

Kettricken - I reckon smoking will be so anti-social by the time your daughter is a teenager you won't have to worry.
Don't feel left behind, I'm still fighting, had two yesterday evening. One of DH's that I looked at and thought what on earth ? Don't enjoy it. Rereading certain chapters of AC.

Thanks frugal Jo just quickly read it I can so relate to it all, especially about not actually getting round to it. Even now I am thinking maybe I will have one sneakily on the way to work after dropping daughter off tomorrow. I do really want to do this but I have no willpower, I give in so easily. But I must do it, I am not worried about letting people down just letting me down. You only get one chance at life and this is it. Right I am just nipping out for a ciggie to finish packet off before tomorrow. One thing is - when does tomorrow start? You see I am such a slave to the weed that I actually get up in the night to have one, there I have admitted it, I am not proud of it, but there you are - that is what I do. Usually I am woken up by OH either snoring or grinding teeth or by daughter crawling into our bed. I then go down for a drink (squash) plus a quick fix. So can I do that tonight or not. I will try not too but those moments are not easily sorted due to excessive tiredness. Oh well tomorrow I will be a non smoker and that is that! (I hope)

I have a snorer too ! And if you don't get to sleep before them.....oh dear, it's terrible isn't it. I totally sympathise. Also he gets up for a fix in the night aswell and he starts work at 5 am so my nights are never peaceful !

Anyway, I don't have any left so I'm with you on this today, I had one last night at 7.45, so down to one a day. Feeling incredibly dizzy and light headed during the day. Started nibbling almonds of all things.

I think you have to say to yourself this is not going to be a long hard slog because that makes it difficult. If you give in then as fishface says just start stopping again. Don't beat yourself up cos it won't help you.

    Good luck for today :)

    Hi All,

Minor setback for me on Saturday night  We had some friends over and got extremely drunk and I ended up smoking.

I have to view this as a minor setback and not an excuse to start again. Maybe it was asking a bit much after 5 days of not smoking to put myself in that situation

    Sorry folks :o

Anyway, I didn't have one yesterday and I haven't had one, nor am planning to have one today.

    How is everyone else?

    Hi

Hiccup as soon as I got up, before I put the patch on I managed to smoke 2 ciggies and after a fraught getting ready for work morning with DD who didn't want to get dressed I had another (whilst wearing patch) on my way to work. So thats 3 but by now I would have usually smoked 6, and I must say I am not too bothered at the moment - drinking gallons of water and eating jelly babies constantly. I do have 3 ciggies sitting in my coat pocket right next to the microtabs. (Emergency only) I feel if I didnt have any I would go into a mass panic anyway, about not having any

Sorry John dont be down just do it again and you know you can.
How you doing frugal jo better than me I hope.

I'm guilty by my absence yesterday. So much for an attempt with Kettricken !

John, dreaded alcohol slip up, gets me every time. Look at the success you had last week, focus on that and not your hiccup. After reading through your debt diary this weekend you have changed your life so much in the last 7 months, you must be so chuffed with what you have acheived.

Kett, new day today. Hope you are feeling up to it. I know they say cutting down isn't the way to go, but weaning yourself off seemed to help me last time.
I've been awake since 5 and took opportunity to reread some more Allen Carr.
Thing that's making me fail is the moping about it. Just need to do it.
I've spent nothing for two days, but smoked 5 of DH filthy Marlboros.

    Hi All,

Thanks for the encouragement Jo and Kettricken. I haven't had a cigarette since Saturday but I need to reset the clock so my new stats are!

Smoke Free For 2 days and 8 hours :T

Jo - We have changed our lives alot but we realise there is still a hell of a long way to go. The hardest part is realising that you can't fix the problem quickly and it will take years and months of hard work to shift the debt :o

    How's everyone else doing?
