If you don't want it then don't buy it!

It doesn't *need* it will last on one battery BUT if you don't want to use the GPS then thats fair enough

The only reason that it would require an extra battery is because of the GPS.

IF you want a phone that can do a million things more than any other phone AND have a excellent battery life that is simply NOT going to happen without making the phone really big.

No point complaining is it? Nokia can't do much if there aren't any batteries that are good enough can they?

you got a new year bonus thanks. I pressed thanks not quote.

Anyway never said i didn't want one, I was just making a comment on the battery life. Maybe if the batteries aren't up to it, they should concentrate on coming up with more powerful batteries first. Afterall whats the point of having an all singing, all dancing phone that can't get you through the day.

Anyway by the time the n95 comes out I will want the next model, which will be even better!

Yeah you are right but some people just want the features.

I mean what I'm saying is that a TomTom navigation system costs over £100, so if you just invest that £100 into a better phone then it seems worth it.

My argument was that it saves you having to carry a whole GPS system. Ok the battery will be a little sh*t but it may not be!

I've seen 1900mah Li-poly batteres being sold on ebay! (same size as the N80 one BL-5B)

I suppose Nokia must have a reason for not using it. Whatever it is, it would be nice to know.

you can change the product code to a generic one using the usb cable given with your phone update the firmware to generic and then change it back.

This invalidates both warranties though. If you update by this method and have a problem then your phone is a brick.

If it updates fine but then has some problems the Nokia Service Centre can see that you have firmware on the phone that has not been approved as they can read the product code on the phone.

Actually I would expect the N95 battery life to be very good when using GPS. For a start there is no bluetooth connection to power and it should be quite simple to implement power saving options with an onboard GPS chip.

Generally GPS chips are using less and less power, I am using a Bluenext GPS receiver with a Nemerix chip that features smart power management to automatically power up/ power down, it will even run continuously for 30 hours. Works a treat with my Generic N73

As for carrying a spare battery most of the recent BT GPS receivers are little bigger than the cellphone battery that sits inside them anyway.

What I would be wary of with the GPS software that comes with the N75 though, is will it be continuously trying to run up data charges unlike the "standalone" systems such as TomTom or Route 66. More and more of the smartphone software seems to have an ulterior motive of selling essential downloads.

Sorry you guys on the 3 network haven't got your N73 firmware released yet but the good news is that the Generic version is pretty darn good and I have not experienced one BT problem with it.

Glad to hear that you are finding the latest Generic Firmware version for the N73 functioning properly with Bluetooth.

having looked at other message boards, it looks like maps are downloaded onto the phone with the gps. This surely will give most people huge bills, as not many contracts have data allowances. It rather took the shine off the n95 for me. But apparantly tomtom maps will work, so it could still save of having to carry a seperate gps unit

Well TomTom's UK and Ireland plus major roads in West Europe is over 200 MB. O2's data charge is £3 a MB so that is over £600 just for the data transfer charge alone, with the cost of data itself to be added on top. I don't think Tom Tom will have to worry about the competition somehow and would expect them to support the N95 ASAP.

I see the N73 is now officially by TomTom, must have been that last firmware upgrade that did the trick.

although it would download the route, not whole of west europe. But I would imagine it would still be expensive, especially when you factor in all the voice commands, turn by turn redraws etc which are delivered via gprs, not the memory card like tomtom etc

Have any of you even read the specs of this phone???????????

It has WIFI! Which means you don't need to use the networks data transfer service.

So all in all TomTom have a major headache on their hands.

You didn't expect Nokia to expect it's customers to download gigabytes of maps did you via the network?

Also I would assume you could download the maps from Nokia and transfer it to your memory card. Or it would be given on a DVD.

wifi does not operate everywhere yet, so getting the route wifi as your are driving won't work, and the apparently the maps are stored centrally, and sent to your phone as you drive. Mapping is not provded free by nokia with the phone, nor are the voice commands. Both cost extra, and sent to the phone as driving . As are the traffic updates if you choose that subscription too. Not sure if tomtom have much to worry about yet
