a box serial refers to the original Nokia dongle box , each had a serial number...hence "box serial"...theres loads now...makes it a bit of a nightmare to unlock phones sometimes...there are three for the nokia 7600 now...lol

I agree , go to nokia free and download their free unlock code calc

you choose the model and it sets the thing up for you for 99% of phones !!

Thanks, this one worked first time. I must say unlocking the Nokia 1100 is very fiddly as soon as I was entering the code, the numbers kept clearing up and asking me to insert sim card. I thought, I would never be able to do it. I have unlocked a few nokias before with ease but not that one. In the end, did manage to unlock it.

yeh, I've noticed that some of the new ones don't give you a second to check the code.....it's just enter it as quick as you can ...

I have merged a few threads together on unlocking Nokia model phones.

When merging threads the posts automatically go in date and time order so may not make sense unless you take this into account.

Thanks for the info; when you talk of the dongle box, presumably that's for setting up at the factory, not a hangover from connected unlocking methods.

Well if the 3510i works (the last one did), fine ; now I've just got a 7600! (but no hurry for a year)

I've read the previous postings and looked up the websites, but i've still got a stupid question.
I bought the £9.99 Nokia from Orange yesterday, and I want to use a cheaper tariff.It looks straightforward enough,but if I can't unlock the mobile with the codes, will the phone still accept the Orange sim card, as it's not worth paying someone to do it for me.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Update - It's the 3510i that I bought.
