Nonetheless, there is plenty of evidence of PPC's predating on disabled drivers and those who drive for them - Who are often amongst the least able to pay and most taken-in/disturbed by their threats.

You should take a shufty over to the parking board and have a good look at their methods. Oh and once the ink is dry on a PPC contract, the stores tend to find they have very little control over how these guys operate. Most just end-up trying to wash their hands of the scum.

And sorry, but however you want to control the muppets, ticketing is not an option - you (or the PPC's) simply have no right to fine anyone!

I've yet to see proof of the company that we use doing anything underhanded. I'm not here on some crusade for these people, but I can only call it like I see it, and so far, our parking situation has improved ten fold, we've far less customers complaining that there's no-where to park, and not a single complaint that they're out of line. So it's a win-win for us - at the moment. Is it maybe possible we've got one of the few decent companies?

You may well have a rarity, just who are these paragons?

  • I'm not going to name names here. Sorry. :) Honesty is all I have, and considering the number of times I have to write MG11 statements and go to court, I would hope you could take my word. If they step out of line I'd be the first person to be trying to get us out of contract with them.

I suspect we could do something ourselves but I don't think it would be considered cost effective.

Have either of you two heard of an oft used phrase "Plan, Do, Review"? Most large companies use this (or worded similarly, at least).
We've followed that throughout the coarse of the last few years in our car park.
First was the manned barrier. It was reviewed, re-planned and we got...
ANPR system #1. It worked... most of the time. Then the company started giving customers grief. It was reviewed, re-planned and we got...
Nothing. At all. It's was a frikkin' free-for-all and at peak periods people weren't coming in because there was no-where to park. So that was reviewed, re-planned and we got...
Un-manned barriers. Problems galore, the barriers didn't work, we ran out of tickets in two days, people complained, it was reviewed, re-planned and we got...
ANPR system #2 which we're still on, had for a few months, the odd teething problem but other than that, appears to be going OK. In the event that we have a repeat, we'll go through the motions again. Nothing is permanent.

IMO anyone who thinks that subjected an elderly couple to the local thug is the correct way deserves all the flak they get.

    Which company is it?

If you don't want to say, please just go to the parking board and stick their name into the forum search to see if there is any discussion on them. Also check the letter chain sticky thread for numerous examples of the scam letters and threats these firms send out to scare people into paying.

I have to say that I'm not convinced because you mention ANPR and that rings alarm bells about several possible candidates.

Security guard I take it? Nobody is doubting your honesty.

I will do that, er, as soon as I go and pick up my OH. I deal with them so rarely I don't recall the name of the company! :rotfl:

We still have the letter from the company directed at the previously mentioned PCSO, I'll have a look at it when I'm next in, but I don't recall anything particularly threatening, on the flip side, it doesn't exactly say "Hi, if you reaaaaaaaaaaally feel like it, please pay us some money, if not, please ignore this letter, we're a bunch of softies."

It would be interesting then if you could post-up just the text or a scan of the letter with all identifiers removed so we can see how the wording looks.

Fair do's, hope it continues well for you.
Unfortunately most of the others can only chase as much money as they can, if they did their job properly and kept the wrong drivers out of the wrong places without ticketing then they would be out of a job very quickly. Its in their interest to ticket as many as possible even if they were ,at best, marginal.

I'll see what I can do, I'm not in work until next Monday though, but I can take a photo.
