Hello, I've been having problems with my laptop for a while now and I'm hoping somebody can help. I keep getting 2 main types of crashes and it eventually starts saying an error log had been created.
Firstly I keep getting a blue screen and it sends an error report saying caused by unknown device driver problem. Any ideas?
Secondly I get errors saying there is a problem with my memory and run windows memory tool, which I have, and that says there is no problem. So I'm stumped really.
Any advice would be appreciated, and its a compaq presario 1500, if that helps. Cheers.

Post the exact blue screen contents.
The error log file would have been saved in Drwtsn32.log. Search for it (by default it's created in \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson) and review the contents using http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/drwatson_overview.mspx?mfr=true.
Check the Windows Event Log for errors. Click Start - Run - type eventvwr.msc - OK.0 -

Is there any way can stop at the blue screen, it fires up then disappears so quickly, is there a method of taking a screenshot or something?{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -
Start, Settings, Control panel, System, Advanced, Startup & recovery, Settings, Uncheck Automatically restart, OK:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Right the blue screen reads:
a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. The problem seems to be caused by the following file: nfts.sys
page_fault_in_nonpaged_area
Technical info
*** stop 0x00000050 (0xa3a171fo, 0x00000000, 0xf75b69cf, 0x00000000)
*** nfts.sys - address f75b69cf base at f75b6000, date stamp 41107eea
beginning physical dump of memory
physical memory dump complete
Hope this helps, may as well be greek to me!!!!{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -

However whenever I run windows memory diagnostic tool it say no fault found.{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -
Almost certainly caused by faulty RAM. Quoting http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000serv/reskit/prork/prhd_exe_duol.mspx?mfr=true :
"Faulty hardware. Stop 0x50 usually occurs after the installation of faulty hardware or in the event of failure of installed hardware (usually related to defective RAM, be it main memory, L2 RAM cache, or video RAM). If hardware has been added to the system recently, remove it to see if the error recurs. If existing hardware has failed, remove or replace the faulty component. You need to run hardware diagnostics supplied by the system manufacturer. For details on these procedures, see the owners manual for your computer.
Corrupted NTFS volume. A corrupted NTFS volume can also generate this error. Run Chkdsk /f /r to detect and repair disk errors. You must restart the system before the disk scan begins on a system partition. If you cannot start the system due to the error, use the Recovery Console and run Chkdsk /r . For more information about the Recovery Console, see Troubleshooting Tools and Strategies in this book. If the hard disk is a SCSI disk, check for problems between the SCSI controller and the disk."
Try also http://www.memtest.org/ to test the RAM.0 -
I'm running XP, not 2000, does that make any difference?{Signature removed by Forum Team}0

Nope, page_fault_in_nonpaged_area, Stop 0x00000050 means the same thing in XP and 2000.0

get a copy of memtest86 and run it also get a copy of seagate seatools or the maxtor (think its maxblast) and test your memory and harddrive with these (bootable disks)0
