not enough work surfaces for my liking, and i dont think a hob with seating within arms length, is all that safe - would prob get much more use out of storage units on that side as well, because the table and seating area is so close to the kitchen its not like you need to sit on top of the hob to be included in a conversation

how wide is the turning circle between the opposing banks of units? because once you drop down the oven door it could be a squeeze with your back to the hob

I would put the sink near the corner - the draining board can be right in the corner. If the dishwasher is close by then all the drainage stuff is simplified. I would also kick out the hob, it spoils the smooth run of that surface. You then creare a U shaped kitchen so no blank walls. At the mo you have a dead area at bunit 7.

This is just me but I would put the hob on an outside wall then the hood can vent outside.
I'm retiring at 55. You can but dream.

Not bad! Looks good for sure. Plenty of storage but not that much worksurface space and left yourself short of space for sockets and spurs for your appliances. Is this the result of knocking a wall down or is it an extension? How do you plan to get the water supplies to your peninsula and the drainage out? Would suggest maybe putting a pop up triple socket in to the peninsula somewhere.

Whats the blank space behind the stools for?

Have you thought about turning it around?

The tall units on wall B & the bank thing down the middle.

I like it, plenty of storage. But I'd do away with double butler sink - do you really need one as you have a dishwasher?

turning circle - between a metre and 1200 - not fully decided yet

I guess it doesnt seem a prob to me having the hob there as my friend has set up similar in that her hob is in the island and she likes cooking and chatting to us when sitting there - really want a family together kinda feel - everyone say aaaahhh - lol! Plus as I say hob would be induction - any ideas for alternative layout whilst still retaining a lot of space and still being part of it all

Thank you - pop up socket a definite in the island!!!

this part of the renovation is knocking three rooms into one - there are a double set of doors going into the conservatory a really long window at the front and a set of double doors into the lounge plus a window that is going to be bricked up. so hard to imagine it all with the walls still in place - lol!

I hate it when a perfectly good, open, usable space - that could be used for tons of things - has a sink or a hob in it as it renders the space unusable and ugly imho.

I'd use that space for: paperwork, hobbies, studying, working, organising stuff, eating, chatting with people.... you can't do that with a hob and a sink in the way.

But the modern trend is for an island ... I hate islands, it's a way to sell product. This is a large room though. I wonder about having an L shaped kitchen, then you get more open space, and a movable table would replace the fixed table. But why have that fixed table when you have a movable table anyway? On the rare occasions you need lots of seating why not have two movable tables, one folding, which can be placed together for those big occasions, and left at the side folded when not in use?

It does seem to me that the kitchen units near the middle of the room close the room off, and leave you with a weird L shape around the kitchen area. Do you need so many cupboards? Why not a work surface to the right of the oven, and replace the tall oven cupboard with an oven and hob. Then place the sink on the left hand wall near the work top. If you must have the projecting units, have less of them and remove the built in table.

I think you want the hob on an exterior wall so it can vent, and the sink will need an outlet to the outside. What about washing machine and dish washer? They use the sink outlet.

Just my opinionated ramblings ... :D

I hadnt thought of turning it around but shall have a look at that next - thank you

its not blank space behind the stools - I wanted double units all the way along but then there wouldnt be any overhang for being able to sit at - so the lady at Ikea suggested - one side have 600 drawers/units and then the side where the chairs are - have a run of shallow units creating knee space then the washer and drier(near to the sink and drainage)
