Another thing with the double entries was that when they happened under the old software, the router would show-up in the network list (click bars to view) but would not connect automatically - you had then had to click them again then click connect, the new software seems to have more or less solved that one.0

Nothing at all?
You should get a box with a list of available networks and the network/sharing center link is at the very bottom of this box?
Otherwise, click Start Menu - Control Panel - then depending on how the display is set, click Network and Internet - Network and Sharing Centre (in the basic display) or just "Network and Sharing Centre" (in the full display).
At this point, I am wondering if simply popping down to an independant computer shop and getting a cheap wireless dongle might not be a better solution to this altogether. They will normally be happy to disable the onboard wireless for you and the dongle, not being up against it on the motherboard should be free of the video chip interference?
You can also get them for about a fiver on Ebay:

NO sorry I meant that I have updated and removed duplicates and then rebooted and the internet connection still doesnt work..
ETA so if I buy the dongle thing it will make it work?0 -
I think it might well - That seems to be the route most G62 users on HP who can't solve the onboard problem seem to have taken.
In fact I may give it a try on the G72 and report back - Even with the new software, it still can take a few mins to find a connection but otherwise I'm very happy with it. That little dongle looks like it could be left parked on the machine with no risk of damage.
A local shop would almost certainly let you try a dongle on their wireless first - so take the machine and see that it connects/disconnects over several restarts before buying.
In the meantime can you try a cable connection and run HP Update software?
Start Menu - All Programs - HP Folder - HP Support Assistant - (wait!) Maintain.0 -
Sorry - just noticed you don't gave a cable, although again, they are dead cheap in Asda or Tesco, just get their own brand - you don't need the super expensive ones. IME it is always useful to have one as a belt & braces measure even if you have wireless.
Can you follow the instructions above but instead of clicking support assistant, try Clicking HP Wireless Assistant - That will give you the device's current status - on or off.0 -
OK, I've ordered that mini donngle so I'll report back when I've tried it - hopefully it will sort my connection problems for good!
In the meantime, you may want to pick-up a cable and investigate your router setup?
Has your daughter got a boyfriend - If not, suggest she chats-up a geek. You will be sorted for computer problems from that moment-on!0 -

I am going to order the mini dongle thing too - will let you know.
No she is only 11 - I would need to vet the said geek before he was allowed anywhere near her0 -
I would try a cable first - 97p - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cat5e-RJ45-Ethernet-Network-Cable/dp/B000IAHNVG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1311017364&sr=8-2
How did you pay for the laptop ? Paypal , credit/debit card ?? Login to paypal/online banking to find out details.0 -
Every now and then Autoupdate decides to "upgrade" my graphics drivers. Every time it does I get the exact same problem.
Use System Restore to go back at least 2 updates and try again.
If that sorts it the go to the Windows Update web page and disable the graphics update.0
