OK, there is a known wireless connection problem on these machines and it is related to the onboard video chip. I have a G72, which also suffers!
Try logging-off and logging-on again till it connects, it should eventually find the router but sometimes it needs to sit a few minutes after restart. Once it finds the router, the connection is solid.
Also check for double entries - Click connection bars, then click "open network and sharing center", then click "manage network connections" - delete all duplicate entries and restart. Also worth checking that the video is set to its native resolution and refresh rate.
However, it should connect by cable without problems (unless you have dupe entries!) and you should do that then run the HP update/maintenance software - they released a new set of video and wireless drivers for the G-series a couple of weeks back that has helped mine quite a bit. However I have noticed a few G62 users on the HP forums who have failed to get a solution and have thrown thir machines back to HP. I've also got an HP DV6 with dual video chips and its connections are rock-solid with never a moment's bother.0 -

In internet explorer, if you go to http://192.168.0.1/start.htm, do you get a window pop up asking you to log in? This is the default address of NetGear routers, and I don't know of many people who have change it.
If you do get this window, then it means that the laptop is connecting to the router OK, but will probably mean that the router is not allowing the laptop through to the internet. In that case, you will need to change the settings on the router.
If you don't get the window up, then the problem is more likely to be at the laptop end, unless the IP address of the router has been changed.

the problem has been going on for a few weeks with DD trying every day to connect, so not sure whether it will connect eventually?
SO this seems to be a problem with the laptop??0 -
Yup - Try looking at the HP tech support forums (no signup needed to read), you will find a lot of discussion about it there.
As I said, the recent driver updates have helped my machine significantly but G62's seem more prone to it. So if you want to return it, I reckon you would have a very good case for full refund/replacement - I'll heartilly reccomend the DV6 as an alternative. No problems with its connection at all and HP have been doing good prices on them recently - you could be able to argue one as a straight swap!0 -
It's looking that way, I'm afraid. Have you checked for the double entries that Pogofish suggests?Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -

I am hoping it doesnt come to that - I have actually forgotten where I bought it!!!
I didnt get paper receipts as I bought it online and I was filing everything in outlook - then my computer went down just after XMas and I lost everything, so I have no record of where and when I bought it from...0 -
The little rising bars on the bottom right of the taskbar, beside the battery/speaker/clock indicators.
You can also get there via the control panel.0
