String and Cotton Shopping bags

I have one of those big trolley clip on bags - brilliant! It is a heavy duty plastic which large handles and clips which fit perfectly over the edges of the trolley. The bag sits kind of like a box (it is a very square shape) and I can fit most of a weeks shop in it. My husband has to lift it in and out of the car tho.
I bought it for 99p at Tescos and I think I will get another. It also folds down very small.
Alternatively i use the free bags you get with magazines sometimes. Also you can knit string into bags. There are online patterns around for these too.0 -
If you are creative with a sewing machine, why not use the pattern at www.morsbags.com I have made several, have kept some and given some others away...... at least you could personalise the style0

I saw some bags in Morrison's for sale the other week and the fold up very tightly and it has a fastener on itso you can pop it into a handbag, they had some funky colours too, shame morrisons dont encourage shoppers with bags for life0

I bought 4 of these bags from montgomery wildlife trust a few months ago. 4 bags for £10. I keep these in the boot of my car and they come in real handy, they fit loads in too. In the past we have used far too many plastic bags :rolleyes:March 2006 £15,200+ in debt April £843.64 in debt - Debt Free date Sept 2009

You know i was just about to start a thread on a similar theme. im organising a "design your own Christmas shopping bag" party for my friends (ethical and not so bothered). Great excuse to have the girls over for a natter and we are all going to buy as many bags as we need for Christmas shopping to reduce the plastic we use over the shopping period. Then on the day of the party we just use scrap material, ribbons and threads etc to jazz up our bags and personalise them.
I think it would be cool if we could actually get lots of these parties going up and down the country if we could to get more people into using their reuseables.
Will go start a thread on the idea now actually just so folk dont miss it lol0 -
A colleague today was sporting a little bag from IKEA - it's like their 'big' bags which you can buy for 50p, only more shopping bag sized. And it only costs 15p!
I don't know how green people would consider it, BUT to me it's an excellent compromise between the 'folding small enough to fit in your pocket' and 'staying open but folding flat' kinds I described above. And they have both short and long handles, so you can either carry them in your hand or on your shoulder - my favourite kind!
Next time I'm in IKEA I can see me buying LOTS - they'll be ideal round the office for when we do large mailings: put the stuffed letters all in a bag rather than a box, as easier to carry to the letter box, but take up no space when not needed!
Off topic, but the large IKEA bags make the most splendid laundry bags!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I bought 2 foldings bags from Au Naturale for 80p each recently. These fold up to about 4" or so, so ideal for putting into my handbag. May get some more of these two fill with (cheap!) goodies for people at Xmas time.Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0

I can't remember what he called it, but I'm sure he got an order from one of the big supermarkets for it. I guess you may find his details on the ITV website.
I watched a couple of those awful programmes fronted by that stuck up his own ar*e guy Peter Jones from Dragons Den. A bunch of irritating people particularly the bag man who flogged some of his things (some sort of holder wasn't it ??) to Lakeland0 -
