Credit Card Fraud!!!

in Credit cards
Hi Guys,
Just wondering if you could help again - I recently posted that my credit card was used fraudulently...
I have notified my bank, and everything has been cancelled as per their security policy.
What I am wondering about now is can the bank/merchant tell myself, the customer, who used the card, where they used it and when they used it. Could they also tell me where the fraudster lives? or is none of this possible?
Thanks

Why do you want to know all this information? You've reported it to the CC company, it's their problem now.0 -
Who - probably not. Where and when - yes they know that. Where he lives - probably not.
And they won't tell you any of it anyway.0 -

OK.....
how did you know it was being used fraudently?
Did you see items on a paper/online statement? the name of the merchant would be here.
If the bank called you they would normally say amount, and business.
And how do you think the bank can magically tell you the name and address of the person using the card????Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -
What I'm basically meaning is that I'm trying to prove the fraud originated in the only place that I use my credit card, I only use it to pay for holidays... so I'm trying to prove it was someone in that travel agents that got my details and used it.
I don't intend to use any violence or anything like that as I'm not like that.
The card was used to make flight bookings, O2 top ups and iTunes ... Usually when the bank contacts the merchant to say that the payment on that card was fraudulent they would provide information to the bank on the name on the booking etc... so would the bank be able to relay that information onto me is what I am asking...0 -
so I'm trying to prove it was someone in that travel agents that got my details and used it.
That may not be the case.
It might be staff at the banking company who got your details from an IT system. Even a 3rd party software or data company.
Could have been a laptop left on a train etc.
How would the person in the travel agents know your PIN number?so would the bank be able to relay that information onto me is what I am asking...
Do you honestly think a thief has given their real name, address and phone number?????
I am pretty certain they won't pass this information on.
Why don't you tell us what your real problem is so that we can help you.
Is a lender trying to deny your claim? is that it?
Otherwsie proving it has nothing whatsoever to do with you, it's the lenders money that's been stolen not yours.0 -
You couldn't be more wrong in what you're saying.
Basically what it is, is that I booked a cruise for 2012 a week ago with TUI (Thomson). I had a wedding to go to so I had to leave my card details with the agent who was booking it so she could put the payments through.
The next day, I see amounts of money coming off my credit card amounting to around £5000.
Payments have gone to various travel websites such as BA, ebookers, Abacus Holidays, Airline PLC etc.. Now, if you were booking something like that you would surely give your proper name and an address.
I know it has to be someone in the travel agents because I have two credit cards and it is ONLY there that I use it.
Incidentally when has it ever been that you need a pin number to conduct transactions on the internet? ...Unless the website has 'Verified By Visa' and 'Mastercard Securecode' which I am signed upto both on both credit cards...then it's a thief's paradise.
All I'm asking for is for the bank/merchant to give me something, some kind of documentation that will allow the travel agents to investigate further because it has actually gone upto Regional Sales Manager level , who is the person I am actually communicating with at the moment.0 -
You couldn't be more wrong in what you're saying.
That's fine, but if you don't give us the info then we have to guess what you are trying to getting at, because what you are trying to acheive doesn't make much sense.I know it has to be someone in the travel agents because I have two credit cards and it is ONLY there that I use it.
Have you given all this info to your lender?
Can you explain to me why you are so bothered when it's the lenders money that has been stolen?
I am not being nasty or judgemental, but unless you tell us we have to guess and the track record on guessing is quite poor :-))Now, if you were booking something like that you would surely give your proper name and an address.
If you worked in a travel agents and stole a customers details, you'd have to be VERY stupid to give your own personal name & address.
Sell it on perhaps but not use your own details. All I'm asking for is for the bank/merchant to give me something, some kind of documentation that will allow the travel agents to investigate further because it has actually gone upto Regional Sales Manager level , who is the person I am actually communicating with at the moment.
Can you confirm whose money has been stolen here?
This is a credit card right?
So it's not your money?
Why are you chasing the fraud?
The CC company should be doing that surely?
Again I'm not trying to nasty, just trying to understand why you are attempting to conduct a fradu investigation when it's not your money that has been stolen.
Perhaps the CC company have insurance and couldn't care less?????
What have your CC company said on the matter??0 -

No it's not where I work. I don't book in the agent's I work at because to be perfectly honest, I don't want any trouble with making my own booking.
I'm annoyed because the agents have said that it is not someone in their store (staff wise) that have done this as they have reviewed CCTV of that day to see if anyone was over the staff member inputting the card details. I'm adamant that it is, I have given this information to my lender which is why I am wondering if they can give me any information on who it was to give the agents to prove them wrong.
It is a credit card. It is the lender's money but it's the way in which it was done, I don't want the person who did it to go and do it to someone else. The credit card company are doing that yes.
I don't know, I'm getting mixed information - some are saying the card company can give these details and others are saying they can't. Maybe the lenders have to be responsible and think if the customer gets these details on the name they put into the booking then they may try to find them etc.
I don't know, all I want to know if it was possible

The people who will stand the loss are the travel agents who you booked with as your card issuer will action a chargeback and claim the money back from them. If this rejects then the card issuer will stand the loss. You have absolutely no proof that your card details were used by someone in the travel agents, i'd be very careful if i were you before you start making accusations. Your card details have to pass through a number of processing stages before the transaction is complete, the details could have been taken at any of these stages. If you've been refunded then you should leave it at that, if it is someone in the travel agents, they will be found out eventually, it's not your job to play detective. Your CC issuer probably won't be taking any further action, so won't be interested in how your card details were compromised. If they do find out, they don't have to tell you anything so i'd leave it if i were you and get on with your life !
Fraudsters can, and do, book holidays/flights in ficticious names, they usually have a fake passport to go with them. I've taken great pleasure in the past in cancelling flights where i know that a fake name has been used, i usually like to cancel just the return flights, leaving them stranded and having to pay again !0
