Credit Card Fraud!!!

  • I'm not playing detective, Thomas Cook have told me, If I can prove my details were stolen there, they will compensate me...but I need to do that, and foremost the staff member (if so) needs sacked.

    Why would they compensate you?

Have you not received the money back from your CC company?

Surely the only people who could investigate this properly would be the police fraud dept as under current data protection rules, they would be the only people allowed access to all of the information that would be required.
Sometimes it seems that just when I think I have reached rock bottom, someone hands me a shovel.
  • Yes, but did you get given a name , real or not of who made the purchases?

    Yes, mine!

I booked a cruise for 2012 a week ago with TUI (Thomson)
Thomas Cook (who incidentally are the travel agents I booked with, I work for Thomson)

    Confused

There is no money to receive "back" ! If you don't make the transaction you don't pay it - simple !

I wondered when the "compo" word would appear .................

I'm now dealing with the regional sales manager for the region of the travel shops that I am in (around 27 shops in total) due to the nature of the problem/complaint I have reported to them. She has specifically told me if I can trace the credit card fraud back to their shop and specifically a staff member that works for their company they will compensate me, to the value...I don't know yet.

I am in the process of receiving it back, but first of all I need to convince some people in a call centre in Pakistan that I'm not the person who used the card - then I've to communicate this to the fraud dept which is situated in the UK.

The police? That's laughable, They only investigate big cases where a number of people's cards have been used. They actually tell you when you report the case to report it to your financial institution, not the police who will then decide whether or not it is serious enough to pass on, which it usually isn't unless it's an organised crime gang.

They probably are the only ones with access to the information, but I approached eBookers earlier today through their online chat facility and what they told me when I explained the situation they asked me to give them my card number , when asking if they could give me any information they said if I pass security (security being details about the reservation which if she was that stupid she would have known that I don't have a clue where this fraudster is going) then she said something about referring it to the fraud dept...even then...how am I supposed to pass security?

The answer is NO, but I suggest you ask the fraud dept anyway.

So you don't actually know do you?

When you have no proof, then YES it it.

How do you know it is 'NO'? Do you have any background whatsoever?

I am pretty certain it was someone in those agents, because to pass the postcode check that most merchants have now...you need to know my postcode, which was on the booking, if they got my name and my card details off the piece of paper then they only have to access the booking to get my postcode don't they?

An update from the regional sales manager today, earlier on about 6pm has told me that someone in the agents has actually been suspended...so that's obviously something.
