How frustrating. What's the latest on finding a home for your remaining old, with the special feature required? And is the old still as unaware of what's going on, or is she understanding anything a bit more now?
Old has no idea what's going on really - still asks "have you seen....?" of the old when I go in, and "... was here earlier, no idea where .... is now". And, other days, like today, when they just sleep.
At best, the old has the mental ability to remember who us family members are, but everything's mixed up and 90% of all conversations are utter nonsense. Old's mental capability is peculiar to explain - can look normal, but only ever talks bizarre nonsense and is hallucinating often and having some bad personal care accidents.0 -
I thought beneficiaries could rewrite wills within 2 years of death, if they all agreed.
they can do that, but it only works for inheritance tax. The local authority would be perfectly within their rights to regard that as a deliberate deprivation of assets. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

To be honest, paying wouldn't be an issue if:
[a] Private payers paid the same that the Council get charged.
Interest rates were at a normal level and not thruppence a year.0 -
You had to highlight after the text on the 'blank' bit of the page, where the writing was in white on a white background. For example:

If I'd have gone for one on clothes, that could also be a plethora of other nice people.
no no don't apologiseI couldn't write it with the correct tone. For reference an 'Advanced SAGE manual' would probably be in my section as we have now got the 'bones' of the programme pretty much sussed....now need to learn to use it for more wizzy accountancy things and sums.

They earnt their money, they kept/saved their money.... thing was, in their wills they left their money to each other.... and the deceased old would be mortified that their life's savings were now going to be handed over to pay for care home fees.
If my remaining old keeps plodding along, that'll be goodbye to £250k .... and what's doubly annoying is that people who are being paid for by the Govt get charged less than people who are paying. Most homes are full of people not paying a bean and the Council pay about £150-300/week less than private payers.
It'd seem fairer if we were paying the same as the Council pay.
That doesn't seem fair......a 2 tier fee structure? Is it a subsidy I wonder, as the council pay less to save on spending taxes and the private person pays a top up to compensate?
Does SAGA have a view on this?0 -

Any chance you could get the cash savings moved into the highest interest paying account available? I am sure there is an NP or someone on savings board who could help find the best one. Even if it's just 1%+ it'd help.0 -

The Council publish a list of homes.... some say "accept Council rates", which means they take in free people.... and they tend to be the more affordable ones. So, those having to pay must be subsidising the Council places.
It's not an easy thing to research to be honest, you're having to decide right now/immediately, without full information -and- they have to have a bed available -and- they have to meet your needs (location, facilities, ambience, price, etc).
If you choose a private one, not in the book, then if the money runs out they turf you out; we've had to pick from the book so the old doesn't get turfed out through lack of funds in a few years when the money's run out.... although it's not guaranteed.0 -

Originally we were looking at doing it on the basis it'd be in a branch in the old's town.... but now the old's moving towns and won't be managing their money it opens up a whole new world of Internet/phone banking to us - so we've not researched any of it yet.
There's a lot to do every day with all sorts of calls/texts/emails going on - and trips of 40 miles round trip to be made and now a property to look after remotely and the will's still not sorted and the PoA's only 99.99% finalised and the property needs to be cleaned/cleared and to go on the market and there are maintenance issues there too and there are these other decisions re a home location that have had to be done ... all with a backdrop of daily not knowing what state the old will be in ... and their varying medical and mental issues over the past two months.
Also, I've learnt to move slowly on things because everything's moving so fast and it's all changing so often that if I did everything "now/today" it'd often cause extra work as it needed undoing/unravelling in the following week as goalposts moved.0
