Thanks but I think it was something that worked the other way - you type as normal, click translate and you get 'Bro wassup c u l8rs.' or the current equivalent as what I typed is like so last decade :(

try megatrain too. It might be that an overnight stay somewhere is cheaper and certainly more practical than trying to do something in a day. the cheap things never work for us, but I was impressed at how much megabus has pushed out since I first notivced it years ago as an alternative to the Oford Tube...so maybe, before you know it....
I looked and it seems megabus does exist... so I plotted the route.

I had multiple problems with their website and eventually found the following "return on same day" option, showing times/costs. This involves leaving a town 10 miles away at 06:15 and getting back there at midnight. This became flawed as I couldn't actually arrive and return on the same day because of the long delay in the middle.

    Part 1, from A to B = £0.00 + two lots of £0.50 booking fees = £1.

Unfortunately there's then a 7.5 hour wait for the next megabus, leaving at about 3.30pm and arriving in Bristol at 7pm (3.5 hours). Bizarrely, it too shows up as free (£0.00).

I have no confidence in free tickets existing, but I don't know the system.

So, from here to Bristol, by megabus is a 13 hour journey ..... but seems to be almost free.

..They had at least two miles to do across sodden fields to reach the nearest pub. I hope they made it before nightfall. :(
Did you not point out to them "If I were going there I'd not start from here"...!

Megatrain is great. With some flexibility, I can get to Edinburgh for £1. The tickets do exist!

    Lovely, thoughtful brainteaser, Viva!
Tickets might exist, but megatrain doesn't exist in many areas/routes. It's bus only round these parts. Here's a map of where they go (too tiny to actually see it but it gives an idea)

Nearest to me would be Exeter, 100 miles away.

Re food ... I opened my fridge to a choice of two items: A cheesy bean slice, or a Weightwatchers quiche lorraine. Both reductions I'd picked up. One had to be frozen and one eaten.... so I lobbed the cheesy bean slice in the freezer and it was the WW for me.... thing was, I had to eat it cold because it takes 20 minutes in the oven - and it's only 5" across. I just can't ever get motivated to turn on a whole oven, which takes 20 minutes to heat up, just to heat one tiny item for 20 minutes. The time/cost of that is disproportionate to what's being cooked.

So I had a cold mini quiche, which I ate with a spoon directly from the tin foil case to save washing up.

    Ahh, another quiz....

Not sure why I thought you were in Edinburgh as I know your from around Glasgow :)

I did visit Edinburgh while I was up there to visit a friend who moved there and that was a whole other thread. Actually from the clues about where you live compared with both cities I suspect it would be hard to cross the border without passing near you. I think

In a situation like that I wouldn't bother pre-heating the oven. I'd switch the overn on, bung the quiche straight in and leave it there until it seemed to be hot. Or I'd remove it from its foil case and nuke it.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
