Apex, not sure what that means.... I'm guessing "cheap rail ticket".... so I looked one up. Chose a random date of Wednesday 1 February and chose here to Bristol. Each way is 4 hours, Cheapest was about £70 return, off peak. Using that train, I'd arrive at about 1pm and have to be on the 5pm train to come back, so a total of 9-10 hours' travelling for 4 hours tops as a meet up. Driving is better than trains0 -

Is this part of a training course in "Tickling Trout" or similar?
[When I was 13, I had lots of "fun" with people claiming to be "water bailiffs" - what was a lad to do, I could not even be a "junior" member of the local angling club until I was 16. "Junior" meant "you can fish the rubbish bit with small fish in it"].
When I was 13, I had to share a mile of water with the real fish bailiff, who treated it like his own, although it really belonged to my friend's grandad. Luckily, I had a very intelligent dog, which I soon trained to tell me if there was anyone moving within about 1/4 mile, but she could hear the bailiff's BSA Bantam much further off than that! :rotfl:
Like you, I found the various regs very tiresome. For example there was a club lake within a mile of my town, but I wasn't allowed to join the club concerned, because my town was just outside their catchment. Strange, eh! Anyway, that was the first time I used an accommodation address.
Yesterday's expedition was more about finding a use for a couple of telescopic rods I haggled over and secured for £8 at the local tip. They fit nicely into the rucksack of an innocent-looking twitcher.:D
However...... maybe He of omnipresentness was moving in mysterious ways yesterday, for although I was royally drenched by a freak and very localised weather condition during my 'research expedition,' this was not before I spotted a notice, which meant very little at the time. Today though, a bit of Googling revealed, to my astonishment, that quite large sections of the local river are served by cheap day tickets issued by someone well known to me....in fact we do a little business and we supply eggs to his Mum! The reason they're cheap is because accessibility is poor, but that doesn't bother me; in fact that's what attracted me.
So, a real chance to be a Good Boy, at least on the home patch!:A I am one happy bunny.:j0 -

try megatrain too. It might be that an overnight stay somewhere is cheaper and certainly more practical than trying to do something in a day. the cheap things never work for us, but I was impressed at how much megabus has pushed out since I first notivced it years ago as an alternative to the Oford Tube...so maybe, before you know it....0 -
also cheap rail tickets have lots of tricks. A random wednesday may have sold out all the cheap tickets. And there might be split ticketing as well if you're travelling across a few train companies.0

Only problem now though is all the NP who didn't get a Dewey decimal must be wondering why not....
For a lot of NPs I did think about them but didn't know enough about them to be able to pick two separate things that would differentiate from all the other NPs. All the ssses is a prime example. I could have put Scotland, but that could also be a few others, as could F1, and I'm not sure whether he is a huge petrolhead.
This was also the problem I had with silvercar, but she had said she wouldn't be able to make it, so I was trying to build on that. Got it wrong though:o.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

spilt tickets are one of those things that make me cross. There is no discount ticket suitable for dh here (e.g. like network south east rail card) and it took lots of trial and error to work out the cheapest way is for him to spilt his ticket at the very next stop. They've also been messing around w/ peak times....making what I think he said is a two hour untravelable window.
I'm going to miss him so much this week, long holidays together are rare. I'm glad its a short week!0 -

I've driven Diesel for over 12 years now so not really a petrol head.
I still guessed silvercar from your clues so it wasn't that wrong
I have to say that was the best, well thought out quiz over the festive period :T sorry Gen0 -

Megatrain is great. With some flexibility, I can get to Edinburgh for £1. The tickets do exist!
Lovely, thoughtful brainteaser, Viva!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I thought it was fun too.
I've been reading my Otto Lenghi cookbook (Christmas gift) and its just fabulous. It makes me want to cry the food is so good. I was reading aloud recipes to dh and its like I like cooking only better. If you love food this book is fabulous.0 -

I love food too much. I've put on at least 4lbs in the last two weeks.
Why does the time when we double our calorie intake coincide with weather which restricts our ability to burn them off?
I know it's an excuse. Today I had my first refusal when offering someone a lift from the station. The couple brandished a map and said, "We're on a hike across country."
It was bucketing down, but this pair, who weren't youngsters, headed off as though it was a warm spring afternoon. They had at least two miles to do across sodden fields to reach the nearest pub. I hope they made it before nightfall.0
