Not doing anything in particular tonight. My three best local friends will be
1) In Scotland
2) At home with kids (smaller than my kids - will be in bed asleep I think) while husband out at work
3) At somebody else's party
So I'll just do something quiet with the kids. They'll probably just want to stay up to see the fireworks on TV. I might see if there are any takeaways open and get something they like. Haven't really planned it. Used up all my planning motivation on having my dad for Christmas.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
our wassailing companions have a medical emergency with an animal and won't be joining us..in fact, they've suggested we wassail next weekend as originally planned. I wonder if its bad luck to wassail twice?0

Our friend's parrot snuffed it last Thursday, after running up a £600 vet's bill.
Made our chooks' last sickie look cheap.
Faced with a choice between being colourful and being able to supply breakfast, I know which way I'd go.

I love briughtly coloured birds, and would love some house birds, but it would be too tempting for the cats. And smelly. I do always look and sigh at pet shops and aviaries though. I know someone who has house birds (and lives in one of those listed millionaire rows I think ...I didn't check the link but from areas discussed) and they fly around the house and roost in glass ''trees'' and trees made of semi precious stones. They have a person whose jobit is to walk behind the birds with a damp cloth cleaning. Its the way to keep birds I reckon......but I can't afford a bird footman so ...its not to be.
There is always something in the local paper about culling the local parakeets. The council has permission to cull and then the owners object so they can't trespass to cull. Then the parakeets are saved. The story runs and runs, until something more important happens...
...like a murder
Incidentally, alleged murderer has been arrested and was known to victim. Seems a quick result.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I believe the vast majority of murderers are known to their victims, although I can't quote any stats for it.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? If we met up and there was a murder do we count as known to each other? What is ''knowing''?0

I wonder if its bad luck to wassail twice?
No it's not.
Hanging toasted bread on trees and singing to them is bonkers, but certainly not unlucky 'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

Drew a blank in Tesco, local pound shop saved the day. Little plastic pots for the mousse and foil containers for the crumble.
Now I just need to estimate out of 50 people, how many will eat mousse, crumble, fruit salad, ice-cream or any combination thereof. Actually its only the mousse and crumble I need to estimate exact numbers for.
Don't be too impressed = the main course is being bought from as take away from a restaurant. The starters (as such) are crisps, nuts and olives.
Beers, wine and Pimms & soft drinks.
We don't have seating for 50. In fact the house is not designed for winter parties. Lots of smallish rooms, so people will prob cluster in their own little groups and won't mix.
We have had summer parties for more than this number, but the garden makes that easy. The boys have had bigger parties (I think 200 was the max!) but banned everyone from the house and kept people in the garden and summer house; but then they didn't need to offer food.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
