I woish we had wild parakeets. when I spent lots of time in surrey we had them there.....and I guess they still are there. I love briughtly coloured birds, and would love some house birds, but it would be too tempting for the cats. And smelly. I do always look and sigh at pet shops and aviaries though. I know someone who has house birds (and lives in one of those listed millionaire rows I think ...I didn't check the link but from areas discussed) and they fly around the house and roost in glass ''trees'' and trees made of semi precious stones. They have a person whose jobit is to walk behind the birds with a damp cloth cleaning. Its the way to keep birds I reckon......but I can't afford a bird footman so ...its not to be.0

Our friend's parrot snuffed it last Thursday, after running up a £600 vet's bill.
Made our chooks' last sickie look cheap.
Faced with a choice between being colourful and being able to supply breakfast, I know which way I'd go.0 -

Old tradition. Miles from the sea here, though.
Alternatively, we could go out and sing to the apple trees, I suppose. Do they have a name for that?0 -

insidentally, a lot of those birds do lay in captivity I think: imagine the delight of eggs tinier than quails eggs, poached for seconds and served on mini blinis or crumpets as canapes....0 -
Think I prefer chickens, though, because I am not really a fan of tiny eggs. And you can get a lot of chickens that are pretty too. Although, they are thick.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I love tiny eggs. some of my chickens lay ''child sized'' eggs...perfect for people for who,m one egg isn;t enough but two bif eggs too many.Or for a kids meal. I LOVE quails eggs, and used to make a pasta dish with poached quails eggs and aspagus and smoked salmon. It was in retrospect a bit of a bankers meal.
