    OMG - Bluey and Treliac in one evening - we are indeed honoured...next time don't be strangers for so long you two :)

    I know there is a thread on it already but I was wondering if any NP live on the roads in this list (Posh Alert for PN). A couple in St Albans, Cunningham Hill Road is OK but not in a good catchment area for schools and Sandpit Lane?! - well it has a few nice houses but is no where near as posh as many other roads - Marshalls Drive and The Park are the addresses to have but both are losing the character to MacMansions with electric gates :(

    my road (which is not on the list) runs between queens road and kings road in richmond, which are both on the list. so basically i'm a pleb sandwiched amongst the rich and famous.

    I had wondered, but am never really sure and tbh, don't care too much. :o its a free world, and apart from missing our lost in action friends and wondering what happens in their lives I don't care if they have one or one hundred log ins. But it must make work for misskool.

    Parakeets; see them occasionally expect there will be push for culling them before they become the next gray squirrels/cane toads whatever.

    Hunting foxes ; see my previous comment on London drivers- I thought they were all amateur fox hunters judging by the numbers of dead foxes strewn around London roads.

    Scottish cakes and pastries -just eaten coffee buns, never seen them down south either

    We've had them involved in the past.... but, to be honest, they work too slowly to be of any use. They take weeks before a volunteer can meet you and we don't have weeks, we have hours/days.

    Also, that's not occurred to us. This only really came up yesterday afternoon at about 5pm, my sibling's going home today and we need to visit places this morning and decide as the H place are keen to ship the old out. If we don't choose they'll just ship the old 'anywhere' that has a bed/has the special feature.
    Unless things have changed I'm not sure that the H can actually do that, can they? I know an old of ours had to be kept in H because there were problems over where they could go. That was a few years ago, though, & things alter. Has the old's GP been involved? Maybe he/she can suggest somewhere or get the H to wait longer for you to find the right place?

    Next week may be a good time to have another word with the advocates organisation Pastures. They will be able to help you talk to the hospital and stop them trying to strong arm you. What you are describing is not dissimilar to how they helped before, so I'm sure they'll help again.

    I was listening to the R4 - question of money programme about 2 weeks ago, and the topic was care of the elderly.

    One "tip" was for the family of the old person, preferably when the latter is in hospital, to "refuse" to get involved with the local council and demand that the hospital does a full fact find and assessment before discharge.

    This sounds horribly heartless, but both organisations have a statutory requirement to follow procedures and the if the NHS decides no support will be coming from the health budget, then the Local Authority is required to find a care home for the local resident.

    The objective is to get the Local Authority to do the work, after all they have the experience and most of all they can get a cheaper price from the home than you as an individual could ever get for the same accommodation.

    Obviously if money is no object and won't run out, then the children of the old person can organise what ever lever of luxury they want.

    ==================================================

    Parakeets - I believer the car park of Esher Rugby Club (actually in Hersham) was the "mother roost" for the spread of parakeets over the country.
    The little b*gg*rs can strip an orchard of sell-able fruit in half an hour. Like foxes they do damage out of all proportion to their needs. Kent farmers sell up now while you still can?

    ===================================================
    Millionaires row:

    Talking of Esher, would someone like to check the 7 figure roads against Google maps?

    It seems to me that a lot of these roads are not on Street View?!?

    For example "Esher Park Avenue". I thought it might be because some of these roads are "private roads".
    But by hovering the little clothes peg man over the map, I find there are dozens of Goolge free roads that I know are public maintained highway and public rights of way.

    These roads used to be on Google Street View, so why and who has "got at Google". I think we the citizens should be told!!! .

    We've had that assessment, but if you're self funding you're treated differently ... and you don't get the cheaper price at the home either. Trying to get the disregard, but it's like pulling hens teeth .... and, your back's against the wall when you're in that situation so if you don't really know what you're doing, but just discovering bits and bobs here and there at the last minute then you can't stand your ground easily.

    Do I dig in and fight it .... with the old running the risk of fatal infections daily? Or do I just let them know I know of the disregard and hope to get it..... can't gamble with the old's health/life.

    Have you checked your power steering fluid Pastures? Power steering can sound a bit graunchy if you let it run down (fluid level should be marked) or if it gets a bit old and dirty. I had mine changed in September. Cost £48 for four litres but stopped the noise. If not it could be steering rack which would be expensive. Checking is something you can do yourself. Topping up is something you can do, changing it is more of a garage job, but not an expensive one.
    I didn't even know I had power steering... maybe I don't. I've never had it in a car before. It does sound like the rear end though, so I was thinking wheel bearings.

    Mmm... power steering unlikely to be a problem then unless you have rear wheel drive. Bearings tend to be a cheap fix though thankfully.

    Is there a real risk of infections in hospital, or is that Daily Mail reporting?
