Er, what antivirus is it? And what virus has it detected?

    F-Prot has detected w32/Expiro.X

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Very nasty. You must make sure that computer is not connected to the internet, and change any banking passwords you may have used on that machine, on a clean machine.

I doubt that F-Prot could disinfect the machine.

Yesterday, Avira found a file on my XP install disk that it thought was a virus, when it clearly was not. There's a website that you can upload any suspect files to and it runs around 30 different virus scanners on it. That at least helps to sort out the false positives. http://virscan.org/

Shortly after my last message, I rang NHS direct who directed me to attend the big hospital A&E, which I duly did.....and they duly admitted me!

I then spent 24 hours connected to drips and goodness knows what else and them planning on doing a procedure today. They decided in the end not to do the procedure today as they would prefer to let the infection and inflammation settle first, so I am now out and they want me back in a couple of weeks.

It is so nice to be back where I should be.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Oh help. Tell me what to do next, please. For now I am just waiting for F-Prot to finish its scan. If F-Prot can't remove it, should I install the Microsoft safety scanner mentioned in the article you mention? And if so how, if I shouldn't be connecting the laptop to the internet? Thanks v much.

Oh, Sue! I'm so sorry for you. I hope it gets better soon and/or they carry out the procedure and it's not too painful.

Use the laptop you are on now to download the install files onto a USB stick, or better still burn them onto a CD, as you can't infect a CD. Treat the USB stick with extreme care, if you use one.

Is the laptop running Linux (hopefully)?

You need to borrow someone else's computer. I wouldn't run microsoft safety scanner, personally. Neither would I worry too much - changing your banking passwords is just a precaution.

Because I'm not familiar with the particular virus, I would go here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum22.html and ask for their help.

I think what they will probably do is get you to run a program that checks for rootkits first, then a program called combo fix, then another program called malwarebytes, and an antivirus.Depending on how aggressive the program is, they may ask you to run a program called rkill.

So... you shouldn't worry, the problem is fixable for sure.

    (Don't use a USB stick, use a CR-ROM not a CD-rw, since this is a exe infecter)

Not feeling too bad, obviously a bit weak and shaky and I am having to take horse sized antibiotic tablets (still loads better than the IV antibiotics though).

They decided against the procedure because they thought to do it now would possibly make things worse, although it would give them the answers they needed, so by waiting, it would allow the inflammation and infection to clear.

The weird thing was despite it being nothing to do with maternity or gynae, I ended up in the maternity block! Quite nice though as all the meal times and hot drinks runs were done to the same schedule as for all the new mums, the bays were 4 bed maximum and the cubicle very large to accomodate mum plus baby.

I was so relieved when they said they had decided not to do the procedure as it meant there was a chance of being home for Christmas whereas if they had done the procedure, it would have been very unlikely. I did however, tell a little white lie and say my pain had settled down but felt I had to as my parents were struggling with the boys, maybe not the most sensible decision in the world but I would have felt awful if it had ended up with dad in hospital with another stroke or heart attack, especially as he has been having a series of mini strokes just recently.

Good news is that the pain HAS actually settled now!
