    I'm not sure there's a correlation.

My Dad has no time for "rubbish like that", and he's one of those incredibly annoying people who springs out of bed at sparrow fart, full of the joy of living.

I am so not a morning person, but also have no time for astrology et al.

What a brilliant turn of phrase!:D

Thank you. thank you very, very much. Its such a horrid situation and its probably uncomfortable to think back about.

I was worried all weekend about dh going back (he didn't eat for three days week before last and it really showed) but he's calm and jolly today. The firm who said ''spring'' may or may not be suffering similar contaction to some of the others, but a vaue date of spring is simply not enough atm. A firm offer at a lower salary or further away may well be better for us.....even if it were only until ''spring''.

edit: the other thing that ours to me is that one has to be really careful it doesn't become a self fulfilling prophesy, if like dh the week before last, and you ..it impacts on eating it will impact on health and confidence which will eventually impact on competance......

It isn't uncomfortable now. I'm not sure if that is down to time, or whatever. At the time, it was horrendous. I was lucky in the friends I had at the time being a big help - some more than others, but all in their own different ways. They didn't always know they were helping, but they did.

Bizzarrely, I had a number of other things in my life (playing bowls being a big one, but also stuff like going for a game of golf) which made me be social, & were great distractions, & wierdly I was doing really well at. Things outside of work seemed to be going really well?

As mentioned, one friend was subsequently in a possible redundancy situation. As I could relate, & as I valued them, I put a lot of effort into supporting them. Later on, they apologised for not being more supportive to me during my experience (FWIW, they had no reason to apologise).

The biggest impact it had on me, was a wholesale change of perspective on how I view work, & in particular, my relationship with employers. I am much more cynical (I was already quite cynical). I now essentially treat the relationship in the knowledge that I am immediately expendable. I assume that my employer only has use for me when they require something. At all other times, I am little more than a cost burden to them.

I took a pay cut to take this job. However, the reduction in stress, the reduced travel, the better working hours, co-related with a reduction in responsibility are immeasurable. I have, in the last 3 years been able to re-take up old hobbies, start new ones, focus on friends & family more, and generally enjoy life. Even though my income is lower. The pay off is phenomenal.

NB I do still care passionately about the clients I work with - in either job. It is my employers that I am more cynical about. I take the responsibilities I hold towards service users very seriously indeed, as they are reliant on people like myself to make improvements in their lives. That hasn't changed, only the view I take of employers.

Hi all, just back from the Isle of Wight. This is what I found out, in no particular order:

Even after gale force weather, it is not necessary to take Kwells on the ferry
Amazingly enough, we had brilliant blue skies for both journeys
The isle of Wight is really delightful. I felt a bit like Dr Who, arriving 40 years in the past.
I heartily recommend the Hermitage Country House Hotel B&B at £30 each a night for the two of us http://www.hermitage-iow.co.uk (warning for PN - posh alert)
Out of season in the IOW, we were the only guests for 2 of our 3 nights
It would be a lovely venue for a quiet wedding, and they have 6 booked for 2012 (and 2 for the year after), which is kind of scary as it's up for sale right now http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-32030911.html Just how do you explain to the bride that she can't have her wedding as the house has been sold?:eek::eek:
The walking on the downs near the hotel is lovely, and I thoroughly recommend a visit before they sell it
The carol service and Xmas lunch at the sailing club were charming, although it was a bit worrying that we were almost the youngest ones there

Hope you had a lovely time GBD. Sounds like you'd recommend the place for a visit? Something for me to consider in 2012 or even 2013 for a jelly tour.
I assume you don't need a passport to go there?

LOL. That reminds me of after the dot com boom when 4 of us spent December making a nativity scene out of PostIt notes, paper clips and staples. I would guess we spent about 90 mins a day on productive work.

I really want a full or three quarter life size nativity set. I thought I could put it in the drive way people pull into with a charity money box.

You can always soften dried peas, then thread them with cotton, then leave them out to harden again, before painting them in festive colours and grouping them together with a bow at the top .... for the cat.

You might even get away with making a "cornflake garland" by painting bits of cornflake in silver/gold and stringing them up.

This is all, clearly, desperate, thinking on my feet thoughts, using basic ingredients you might already have in, or can get easily.

It's just the paint that'd be extra.
