in all seriousness it was really depressing when the bbc published that map of all road deaths in the last 10 years. just looking around the area where i live there were about 15 cycling fatalities within the immediate vicinity all involving HGVs. there were also a concerning number of OAP pedestrian casualties.

I'd agree- you need a certain critical mass of cyclists before it becomes a safe form of transport.

Drivers in London don't look out for them, and HGV drivers never know they're there.

speaking of drivers in london.... this is what i saw on the way home from the station tonight (click for full size).

when i went back the other way to go to the gym, there was a very large empty hole in the front of the house. if this wasn't an intentional ram-raid, it's the most ludicrous thing i've ever seen!

This looks like the work of my MIL shortly before she gave up driving for good. The garage across the road loaned her an automatic car, and she stuck it into reverse and pressed the accelerator. The acceleration backwards threw her weight forwards, so she ended up flooring the accelerator. Anyway, she not only wrote off the car she was driving but two others that were parked up, waiting for repairs.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

i don't miss commuter time in London, uhuh. mind you, local town to the north east here has a regular traffic queue, whih is annoying because its where the feed store is, and the waitrose.

I've begged dh not to use boris bikes....he's just not observant enough to cyle in London IMO.

I'd just like to ask who got a 12 car train at St P at 6.30 this evening and got a seat :)

Thameslink 2000 is now staring to happen...in hindsight it was a bit silly putting a completion year in to the project title. Also although the line is now ready for 12 car trains they only have enough rolling stock for 4 trains per day until 2015 - good planning or what...

Our lines are shared with FCC and Southern. Some services have 12 car trains but at rush hour, there will still be some people standing the 50 minute journey into Victoria.

Of course, this is made worse on the days they have a broken down train and they chop it into an 8 car service..I really don't miss rush hour commuting.

on our line Reading is the sea change: its here you can sit down coming home, and where you can feel safe sitting going in.

dh LOVES being walking distance from his office midweek.

still chuckling thinking of dh wheelying about london...especially cobbled bits. :)

not sure if anyone else here likes novel-teas. :) I was very pleased twinings made the rose garden tea a permanant feature not just for the summer before this one (when it was special edition only I bought packets and packets of it, so might have boosted the fiures a bit preparing for its withdrawal from market!). At the weekend I bought ther blossom earl grey and its yummy too. I just came down after deciding not to bath this morning...too cold, will bath this evening instead....n am comforting my grubbiness with a mug of blossom earl grey right now.
