I'm with NDG & LydiaJ in thinking astrology is complete & utter boolsheet.

I cannot ever fathom why anyone would feel there are only 12 categories of people in the world.

I'm also wondering if believe in such things is related to what time you prefer to get up each morning?:D

I get up before dawn and don't believe it. I do respect ther people's right to believe it though, and would mock it with no more venom than I would any other religion.

    Physiogmany is quite fun though.

Alternatively, put it on his list for the weekend :D

ah, that touches a nerve on the hazards of contemplating a life where we are in different countries or continants again for a while...you feel you'll get used to hitting stuff that wants a screwdriver.

Any of the NP's seen the movie 'Mary and Max'?

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0978762/

It was already out in 2009, but only watched it now on DVD.
Clay animation a la Aardman studios.

Loved it. It's funny, dark, sad, beautiful. Highly recommended :)

for lir, but more in relation to fir's circs.
My previous job initially felt like heaven. I started & thought I'd be really happy, & thought I could stay there years.
How wrong I turned out to be.:(

After 8 months, the scenario changed very quickly. I discivered that my direct line manager wouldn't fully support me - indeed, would happily hang me out to dry. I also knew that the asst managing director didn't rate me (he actually told me once I was wrong for the job). It then became abundantly clear they were restructuring my dept, & there would be redundancies.
A consultant was brought in. We didn't get on. Everyone else got on with this consultant. I felt the consultant was a blagger. However, they were tasked with the restructure. I started to feel I needed to look elsewhere. I had basically had 5 months of feeling totally unsupported. With this new consultant, I felt like my manager was my enemy. It went downhill fast.
Initially in the restructure, I was told I had a position. However, on the very last day, I was told they'd changed their minds. I was the only one to be made redundant.
I had to challenge the decision, & basically battled for months with them. During this time, they took all my responsibilities off me. I effectively had no job (but had to turn up for "work"). The closer I got to the workplace, the more nauseous I got. I had a right ding-dong with the consultant (who got recruited by the company) & HR. People kept making mistakes, so it got to the situation where I could only liaise with 1 specific person in HR.

It was horrendous. The worst 13 months of my life (family bereavements aside - though this was more drawn out, & felt very personal). I lost weight. Lots of it (relative to what I had).

Ultimately, they messed up & settled. I was also phenomenally lucky in obtaining this employment (just as the credit crunch was starting - the jobs market had fallen through).

The relief when I knew I had alternative employment was phenomenal. Even though I didn't have a start date (as it turns out, I ended up having a month and a half off inbetween, & needed it to recover).

It was a horrible time. A time of huge peaks & troughs. Moments of eleation, and conversely despair.

I have to say, the treatment I had from that employer really affected my perspective on life & work.

It is a really wierd situation. I had some good friends around me who really helped. There were times (mainly at work) where I felt very isolated. My friends were good, & I wouldn't have struggled through without them. Intruigingly, recently one of my friends was also threatened with redundancy. After finding they were secure in their job, they apologised for not being supportive enough through my experience.

Of course, mine was stretched out over a long time. So had a bigger effect in some ways. Plus I was regularly exposed to the issues. However, to a certain extent, not too dissimilar to fir's circs.

I hope it gets better for him soon.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

It's a Russell Hobbs and looks a bit like this (brushed metal finish though, not shiny)

We have exactly the same, also in brushed metal. It's lasted for ages.

Thank you. thank you very, very much. Its such a horrid situation and its probably uncomfortable to think back about.

I was worried all weekend about dh going back (he didn't eat for three days week before last and it really showed) but he's calm and jolly today. The firm who said ''spring'' may or may not be suffering similar contaction to some of the others, but a vaue date of spring is simply not enough atm. A firm offer at a lower salary or further away may well be better for us.....even if it were only until ''spring''.

edit: the other thing that ours to me is that one has to be really careful it doesn't become a self fulfilling prophesy, if like dh the week before last, and you ..it impacts on eating it will impact on health and confidence which will eventually impact on competance......

I had the same one too which is now in that little steam cloud in the sky.

I thought it was noisy and blamed that on it being metal so I got a white plastic one which is quieter and boils water all the same
