Emergency call re the old this morning, so that's been my day wiped out.

Now.... I had planned to spend the whole day today finding/buying some printer ink cartridges at a price less than the national debt, or, simply buying an entirely new printer.

All I want is an HP 56 (black) and maybe an HP 57 (colour) cartridge for an HP PSC 1317 printer..... it doesn't look like one can just walk into a shop and buy one... and I have no time for deliveries as I had planned to do loads of typing/printing today for my (weeks behind) homework to hand in tomorrow.

Just trying to think where to try to get these cartridges... some crazy prices being quoted out there (£20 + £28 for example). I'd like to get the pair for less than, say, £12, or simply buy a new printer and use the ones that come with it. I don't print much, last time I had this dilemma I bought a new printer (2007), not needed to print since 2009, so no need to have done this before.

It's only a 20 mile round trip to do this buying, once I find a shop that has them at a reasonable price and is open.

    Cheap refills?

We have two shops on our local High Street that offer cartridge refills at very low prices. Both independents rather than chains, I've not been in either, but if your printer is cheap as chips it may be the place to go. Only problem will be that they are unlikely to have a big net presence.

Print to pdf and email your homework with a little note to say that the dog ate your ink cartridges?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I am unfamiliar with refills.... so scared I'd do it wrong/make a mess and it'd end in tears

Nice idea... but the homework involves building collages in monochrome and one of the primary or secondary colours, with pieces cut from magazines etc.

And then to cut out some photos of primary and secondary coloured stones (that's 6) and place those onto various sizes of gold/silver foil/paper and write up which work/not and name the stones. So that's 12 bunches of notes.

I was given one small gemstone catalogue ... but trying to find the gold shiny (foil-like) paper took me on a 40 mile journey and involved a total trip of 4-5 hours on Saturday... grabbing any free catalogues (e.g. Avon, Lidl, Asda) along the way hoping for enough bits to cut out. They suggest fashion images cut from magazines - and a whole raft of stuff I don't have. I even had to buy some Pritt stick.

And if that weren't enough - it all has to be covered in notes/annotations. I figured I'd work it out on paper, then run the "notes/annotations" through a printer in a handwritten-style font.

But there's a lot of cutting/glueing to get through before I even get to that bit.

So it's not an essay ... it's some art pieces :)

I do also want to type up my class notes so I can refer to them - that'd be plain printing... but only for me.

So far, class attendance = 9 hours.... homework will be taking 20+ hours to achieve. Didn't expect any of this, nobody said there'd be homework and I'd need to be drawing things, painting things, working in "wet and dry media" (that's crayons and paints to you and I, although I have no paints).

Won't your local supermarket have both expensive carts and cheap printers?

But Silvercar is right, there is probably a local shop that 'recycles' cartridges, you give them your empties and they give you ones they have refilled so you don't have to go near the messy stuff yourself.
    I think....

Back on again, my internet went down for a couple of days...boys were not impressed as they needed it for homework over the weekend.

Right hair - natural wave, if it gets too long I get ringlets. It is also naturally dark ish brown with copper tones in the summer but I have dyed it a slightly lighter colour..as a child I was blonde.

I have a fair amount of grey, I think caused by the amount of stress I have had over the years.

Benefit cheats - I don't think I would 'grass' on someone else just in case I have read the situation incorrectly and it puts them in hardship. That said, I am waiting for my next door neighbour to inform on me for not being disabled enough for disability benefits because I put the bins out once a week...she will get a shock, I don't claim any but she has been gossiping with other neighbours about me getting my comeuppance for misclaiming them. Thankfully the other neighbours don't like her very much as she is pretty snooty, so they let me know what she has been saying whilst at the same time, trying to get through to her that I am not misclaiming because I am not claiming at all...she doesn't believe them!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
