It may not be kindle, but paper based books will migrate to eBooks rapidly in the UK. As will readers. I think we are between two and four years behind the US... but it will happen.

I agree. I would say that fiction is going here too, though not children's books or non-fiction; the first due to the cost of kitting out children with expensive gadgets that they break, plus they are far more highly illustrated, which is also the technical constraint for the second. It's a matter of time.

One big difference between the UK and the US, it will be interesting to see how this plays out, is that sales tax is not added to books in the UK, it is in the US, and it is in both countries to eReaders.

In terms of how it hits libraries, big libraries are huge repositories of non-fiction and out of print materials. Small, community libraries are repositories of best-sellers, mostly fiction, so they will be hit hardest and first I think.

The out of print thing is a very important factor. It is something that, from now on, is never going to happen. Once you pay the money to produce an ebook, there is no reason for it ever to go out of print. One of the thing that is happening, via the Oxford libraries, and US copyright libraries, is they are bringing a lot of long out of print work back into "print".

That's a process that will take decades, of course.

As we're often posting about travel experiences and countries visited, I thought it might be fun to do the "which countries have the NP's visited" game.

after selecting the countries visited, from the html code only copy the bit between <img src=" and "><br/> and put that in the 'insert image' link when posting

    Anyway, here is mine.

Here's my map, they're all countries I've visited and stayed at, no airport stop counted. You'll notice that it is heavily dominated by Commonwealth/ex-colonies countries and Europe. There's a few included that you probably won't notice, such as Fiji, Gibraltar, Channel Is etc.

    For my location, see left!

CBA with the map thing - belgium, Majorca as a child on holiday, & Ibiza 10 years ago.

Can I ask, is it just me that finds this headline childishly funny?

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'm grumpy....generally I'm feeling ok, but the pain in my head is simply unbearable today, I can barely think, and I'm trying to finish off this ruddy paper work for he new accountant. DH sent me all his salary stuff, but for the worng year, and I can't find half of mine...which is entirely my own fault. All I really care about is my stupid splitting head.
